Dedication
I dedicate this book to my beautiful wife Dena who has been telling
me for many years that I should write books. Well, here it is (or
should I say here is the first one!).
I also dedicate this to my wonderful children Edward, Tom, and
Katie who are examples to me of how we should follow Christ. I
don’t claim to be a particularly good parent but for some reason
that I can only assume is God, we have not had the problems so
often associated with young people these days. Thanks Jesus!
And finally but by no means the least, I thank God who has proven
time and time again that He does love us and He does answer our
prayers.

Chapter 1 Introduction
Introduction
I believe prayer works, that God does respond to our prayers, He
may not respond in the way we expect or at the time we want but
He knows exactly what we need, when we need it, exactly how much
we need and responds accordingly. He promised Sarah a child but
she didn’t get the child until she was well past normal child bearing
age and after she had used up all the natural ways to produce that
child. She even tried to cheat by using her maid to conceive a child
for her. “So Sarai said to Abram, 'See now, the LORD has
restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid;
perhaps I shall obtain children by her' " (Gen_16:2).
Eventually when all she had left was God’s promise, she conceived
the child Isaac. How did she conceive? By faith - "By faith Sarah
herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a
child when she was past the age." She based her faith on God’s
promises "She judged Him faithful who had promised." Heb 11.11
So how can we receive the answers to our prayers? How can we
have effective prayers? The purpose of this book is to help us be
more effective in our praying.
James 5.16 tells us that “The effective, fervent prayer of a
righteous man avails much”.
We all want our prayers to be effective. That’s why we go to the
trouble of praying. We want results from our prayers - otherwise
why bother praying?
Often we don’t seem to get the results that we desire - so how do
we ensure that our prayers are effective.
I have observed that people pray in many different ways. I’m not
saying that any of these are wrong but sometimes we do pray in the
wrong way for the specific request we are praying about. They also
may be prayed at the wrong time or for the wrong reason.
Common ways people pray are;
 Silent prayers – they sit, kneel or stand with hands together,
eyes shut and praying in their minds. I personally always pray
out loud but on one occasion I was praying in a group of 3 men,
the other two prayed silently, I had no idea of knowing whether
they were praying or had finished so we just stood there like
dummies until someone said Amen! But many Christians pray
this way and it is true that God knows our mind, He knows our
heart, He knows what we need before we even ask for it.
 Loud prayers – as I said before, this is how I normally pray but
I pray at my normal voice level so I or the people praying with
me can hear. Sometimes it seems that the louder you pray the
‘holier’ you think you are. Some people are really loud, perhaps
they think God is deaf or maybe He is so far away that he can’t
hear unless you shout! But you can pray as loud or as soft as
you want so long as you are not just trying to do it for show.
 Olde King James English prayers. When Jesus walked the
earth, when He spoke to men or prayed to the Father He spoke
in the normal street language of the day, not using terms that
went out of fashion 100 years before. If He were to talk to
you today, He would speak in the same language you normally use
and understand whether that be English, or any other language,
whether it be olde English or today’s street language, God will
understand.
 Praying in Tongues prayers. I am a strong believer in the Holy
Spirit and in praying in tongues. First make sure you are
actually praying in tongues and not just trying to sound as if you
are. Praying in tongues always honours God - in fact all prayers
should always honour God and not man. Praying in tongues is for
when you don’t know what or how to pray for a particular thing,
and will often lead you to praying in your own language using
words you would not have thought of.
I also use praying in tongues to help me get into the right spirit,
start by praying in tongues until I forget the cares of the day,
pray in tongues when I need extra power, boldness, or help for a
situation I am about to face.
 If it be your will prayers. This is often used as a way out in
case you don’t get your prayer answered. Praying in God’s will
should be a prayer of consecration where you say ‘I want to do
this but not if you don’t want me to I’d rather do your will God.
The Bible contains God’s will so if we quote scripture to back up
our prayers, we do not need to add if it be God’s will. In fact to
do so would be lack of faith and could make the prayer
ineffective. For instance, the Bible clearly shows it is God’s will
to heal people – that’s what Jesus did and what He told His
disciples to do (including you and me). Remember the Bible says
that all the promises of God are yes for those who are in Christ.
 Marching prayers. For some reason I, like many others, march
up and down when I go to a church prayer meeting. I think it
just helps keep me focused on the subject and the distractions
around me. The Israelites marched around Jericho 7 days and
then the wall fell down. Sometimes, when we are facing an
enemy or need a breakthrough, we march around it praying,
then on the last day shouting and rejoicing.
 Prayers that go on and on and on and on and on and on and on
and……. Check out the Lords prayer – it only takes about half a
minute to say the whole prayer and it covers several different
issues.
 Laying on of hands type prayers. This is mentioned in Bible for
when you are praying for the sick or consecrating someone. It
is particularly useful for the person being prayed for as a point
of contact to remember until they see the actual physical
manifestation of their healing.
 Anointing with oil prayers, usually for ordaining people in the
ministry or when people are very sick.
 Shouting at the devil type prayers. We are told to pray to the
father in the name of Jesus not to pray to the devil. Yes we
can cast out demons, but let’s use the name of Jesus more and
any name of a devil very rarely. Jesus has already won the
battle, we just need to take hold of the spoils of the battle
such as healing, freedom, sanity, prosperity, etc.
 Scripture Prayers. One of the most effective ways to pray is
to quote the scripture that supports your prayer. Sorry, let me
correct that statement, THE most effective ways to pray is to
quote the scripture that supports your prayer. This way you
know you are praying God’s will. The bible tells us that in Christ
all the promises of God are Yes. This means if we can finds a
promise of God that supports our prayer we know we already
have the answer. Be careful not to bend the scripture to suit
your circumstances, you cannot use the scriptures to support
you sinning. Remember the 10 commandments, they are our
boundaries.
 Reading from a book of prayers. Typically, traditional churches
use a prayer book of prayers written by famous men of God
over many years. I tend not to but I have written my own
prayers some of which are in this book and I use them when I
am feeling particularly down and don’t want to pray, it is a good
way to get me started.
And there are probably many more ways that people pray – as many
as there are different churches. Despite all these different ways
to pray, prayer is really just communicating with God and God has
told us that we can come to the throne room to find grace and
mercy in time of need. The most successful prayers occur often
when you just include Jesus in every part of your life and say
things like;
‘It’s a beautiful day today Lord, thanks for the sun and the cool
breeze, and look how beautiful the flowers are today’
or ‘This is going to be a pretty tough meeting Lord, please help us
to come to the right conclusion and give us peace so we don’t end up
arguing’
or ‘Lets go for a walk, which way shall we go? You lead me and if
there is anything you want to tell me or you want me to do, then
please show me’
or “Lord if there is anything you want me to pray for, please place
that on my heart now”.
My experience and the testimonials of thousands of believers
indicate that prayers do get answered – but may be not all and
often, like Sarah, not in the way we expect. So what can we do to
make sure we get a better success rate?
James 5.16 says “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man
avails much”.
Which raises three questions in my mind.
1. What is effective prayer?
2. What is fervent prayer?
3. Who is a righteous man?
Chapter 2 Effective Prayer
Effective Prayer
Mark 11.23-24 tells us we are to pray IN FAITH
BELIEVING.
The important ingredient in prayer is faith and that means trusting
God. Mark 11 22-24 says; So Jesus answered and said to them,
"Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to
this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not
doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be
done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you,
whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive
them, and you will have them.”
 So then we need to Have faith in God, trust that He will do
what He has promised in His word.
 Believe in our hearts (not necessarily our minds).
 Speak what we believe and believe we have received it at the
time we pray.
 This means speaking what God says about the issue to the issue.
TRUST GOD – Mark 11.22, PS 37-3-4, Rom 4.21
Pray according to the WILL OF GOD
2 Corinthians promises us that in Christ “ALL the promises
of God are YES” so lets find out what these promises are
and pray them.
Quote Gods’ Word to Him and it will not be returned void
(Isaiah 55.11) Build up our case before we pray using the
scriptures to back us up in the same way a lawyer would
use the states lawbooks.
Quote what Jesus said – surely we can believe He knows
what God will is? Quote the disciples, Mathew, Mark,
Luke, John, Paul, James, Peter – after all they should know
what God’s will is. Quote Abraham, Moses, David and the
prophets, they experienced Gods will.
The Bible also tells us that we are to “worship God in spirit
and in truth”. What does this mean in relation to prayer?
It means we are to trust God. It means we pray in spirit
and in truth. In our hearts and mouths. In tongues and in
English. We communicate with God through the spirit and
through speaking out what we believe in our heart we let
our requests be known to God.
Don’t worry about it, pray and then give thanks for what
God has and will do.
Phi 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by
prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests
be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which
passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
Chapter 3 Fervent Prayer
Fervent Prayer
The word fervent means “earnestly, without ceasing.’’ No
matter how bad the situation looks or how impossible it
may seem, continue to pray.
Practice everyday. Be DEVOTED to prayer (continuing
steadfastly in prayer)
Romans 12:12 “rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation,
continuing steadfastly in prayer; “
Colossians 4:2 “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant
in it with thanksgiving; “
Be like the man who had visitors late at night in Luke
chapter 11…….And He said to them, “Which of you shall
have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him,
‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has
come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set
before him’; and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do
not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are
with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you’? I say to you,
though he will not rise and give to him because he is his
friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give
him as many as he needs.
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and
you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For
everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to
him who knocks it will be opened.
Although we are encouraged to be persistent, we are also
warned against vain repetitions. Rather tan keep pleading
every day , pray once, when you have the faith to really
believe it, then you can give thanks to God for it until you
see the physical answer to your prayer.
Prayer is NOT vain repetitions but we are encouraged to
keep on knocking at the door.
God looks to the heart. He knows exactly whether you are
praying in faith or fear, for selfish reasons, out of a sense
of duty or because you truly want to serve God.
In Jesus’ day, a lot of ‘religious’ people used to make a big
fuss of praying in public so everyone would see them and
think they were ‘Holy’. Jesus was not impressed by them,
He saw through their deception right to their hearts. You
may know somebody like this today (or is it you maybe?).
We are not here to impress men. Prayer is between you and
God. Sometimes there is a need for community prayer, but
you do this humbly and not to make yourself look good.
Some people are called to a very public ministry, look at
the fruit of that ministry to see if they are really serving
God or impressing man. You shall always know a man by his
fruit. (Matt 12.33)
Matthew 6:7 "And when you pray, do not use vain
repetitions as the heathen do . For they think that they
will be heard for their many words. (assume this means
that they are not really heard)
Acts 15:8 "So God, who knows the [heart], acknowledged
them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to
us,
Chapter 4 A Righteous Man
A Righteous Man
2 Corinthians 5.21 tells us that when we are ‘In Christ’ we
take on His righteousness. In other words, when we
become Christians, our unrighteousness is replaced with
His (Jesus) righteousness.
We don’t deserve to be righteous (in fact the Bible tells us
our righteousness is as filthy rags!!), we can not earn
righteousness, it is a gift from God (Romans 5.17).
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we
might become the righteousness of God in Him”.
Jesus became sin for us. He took on our sin and nailed it
to the cross so that we could become righteous.
Phil 3.8-9 says; “Yet indeed I also count all things loss for
the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord,
for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count
them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in
Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the
law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the
righteousness which is from God by faith; “
Righteousness is something we receive by faith and enables
us to “stand in the presence of God the Father, without
any sense of inferiority, guilt, or consciousness of sin –
just as if sin never existed in our life” (E.W Kenyon).
The fruit of righteousness means that we have peace, the
effect of righteousness is quietness and confidence
forever. (Isaiah 32.17).
I like what John MacArthur says about righteousness;
“In its theological sense, justification is a forensic, or
purely legal, term. It describes what God declares about
the believer, not what He does to change the believer. In
fact, justification effects no actual change whatsoever in
the sinner's nature or character. Justification is a divine
judicial edict. It changes our status only, but it carries
ramifications that guarantee other changes will follow.
Forensic decrees like this are fairly common in everyday
life.
When I was married, for example, Patricia and I stood
before the minister (my father) and recited our vows.
Near the end of the ceremony, my father declared, "By
the authority vested in me by the state of California, I
now pronounce you man and wife." Instantly we were legally
husband and wife. Whereas seconds before we had been an
engaged couple, now we were married. Nothing inside us
actually changed when those words were spoken. But our
status changed before God, the law, and our family and
friends. The implications of that simple declaration have
been lifelong and life-changing (for which I am grateful).
But when my father spoke those words, it was a legal
declaration only.
Similarly, when a jury foreman reads the verdict, the
defendant is no longer "the accused." Legally and officially
he instantly becomes either guilty or innocent-depending
on the verdict. Nothing in his actual nature changes, but if
he is found not guilty he will walk out of court a free
person in the eyes of the law, fully justified.
In biblical terms, justification is a divine verdict of "not
guilty-fully righteous." It is the reversal of God's attitude
toward the sinner. Whereas He formerly condemned, He
now vindicates. Although the sinner once lived under God's
wrath, as a believer he or she is now under God's blessing.
Justification is more than simple pardon; pardon alone
would still leave the sinner without merit before God. So
when God justifies He imputes divine righteousness to the
sinner (Romans 4:22-25). Christ's own infinite merit thus
becomes the ground on which the believer stands before
God (Romans 5:19; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Philippians 3:9). So
justification elevates the believer to a realm of full
acceptance and divine privilege in Jesus Christ.
Therefore, because of justification, believers not only are
perfectly free from any charge of guilt (Romans 8:33) but
also have the full merit of Christ reckoned to their
personal account (Romans 5:17). Here are the forensic
realities that flow out of justification:
We are adopted as sons and daughters (Romans 8:15) We become
fellow-heirs with Christ (v. 17) We are united with Christ so that
we become one with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17) We are henceforth "in
Christ" (Galatians 3:27) and He in us (Colossians 1:27)”
Chapter 5 How to Pray
HOW TO PRAY
There are many ways to pray, and many different types of
prayer from informal to formal.
Come Boldly to the Throne of Grace
The Bible tells us that as Christians we can come boldly to
the throne of God to find grace and mercy on time of need.
Like a child can come to his or her natural father, so we
can go to our Heavenly Father. We can go right to the
throne room any time any day. We go there in the name of
God’s only begotten son Jesus who has paid the price for
our salvation and through whom we have now become
children of God and joint heirs with Christ.
Who to pray to
Jesus taught us in the Lords prayer to pray to God the
Father. Not to Mary or some Saint.
The Bible tells us clearly to pray to the Father. I find
no-where where it says to pray to saints or angels. We
pray to the father but in the name of Jesus.
John 14:13"And whatever you [ask] in My name, that I will
do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 14:14"If you [ask] anything in My name, I will do it .
John 15:7"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will [ask] what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
John 16:23"And in that day you will [ask] Me nothing. Most
assuredly, I say to you, whatever you[ask] the Father in
My name He will give you.
John 16:24"Until now you have asked nothing in My name.
[Ask], and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
As you can see from the above quotes, the Bible clearly
tells us to pray to the Father in the name of Jesus.
As Christians we are now entitled to use the name of Jesus
which is a name that has the Highest authority in heaven
and on earth and even beneath the earth.
Phi 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be
equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon
him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and
became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a
name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth,
and things under the earth; And that every tongue should
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father.
Heb 13:15 says “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of
praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks
to his name.”
Standing or Kneeling?
There are examples on the Bible where people knelt to
pray. Daniel knelt to pray, Jesus bowed His knees and fell
on His face, Abraham stood, David sat and Moses walked
with God. So for normal everyday prayer times, find out
what is comfortable for you and do it – the important thing
is that you find time to communicate with God in a setting
where you can focus 100 percent on God.
Sometimes I like to stand, sometimes to walk, often to sit
in an easy chair, and sometimes I kneel. The main thing is
to focus on God and be open to prayer as He leads and
listen when He speaks.
There will be times when you need to pray on your knees or
maybe lay face down on the floor to pray because you are
praying for God’s guidance or maybe interceding for
someone else.
Sometimes I find myself standing in a corner, other times
sitting on a bus. When I pray over my food I am sitting on
a dining chair. There are no absolutes, you take your cue
from the Holy Spirit, what you are praying for and how
deeply the praying is.
You can pray just for a few minutes or maybe it will be for
an hour, or all night or on and off for days.
You can pray with other people or alone. In your secret
place or privately in public. Later on you will see we are
called to pray unceasingly.
The Lords Prayer
The prayer commonly referred to as the Lords Prayer is
not one necessarily the one that Jesus prayed Himself. It
was an example or model for us to use when praying. Jesus
was asked by the disciples to teach them how to pray and
this was His answer;
1. Worship God.
Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
2. Pray for God’s Will to be done..
May thy kingdom come and thy will be done on earth
as it is in Heaven.
3. Request for your own needs to be met.
Give us this day our daily bread.
4. Confess your sins and weaknesses.
Forgive us our sins
5. Forgive those who wrong you.
As we forgive them that sin against us
6. Ask Him to lead you away from temptation.
Lead us not into temptation
7. Ask for protection
But deliver us from evil
8. Worship God
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory
forever.
The prayer Jesus prayed for us.
Just before He was arrested and led away to be crucified,
Jesus prayed for the church. His prayer was that we
would have unity. Not just any unity but the same unity
that He had with the Father. The fact that He knew
this was His last opportunity to pray for us before he
was arrested, tortured and killed, emphasises the
importance of this prayer.
This unity can only be attained where we are in Jesus and
He is in us in the same way that He was in the Father and
the Father in Him. This is by allowing the Holy Spirit to
dwell in our hearts and to rule our lives.
John 17
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and
said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that
Your Son also may glorify You, "as You have given Him
authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to
as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life,
that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus
Christ whom You have sent. "I have glorified You on the
earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to
do. "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself,
with the glory which I had with You before the world was.
"I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have
given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them
to Me, and they have kept Your word. "Now they have
known that all things which You have given Me are from
You. "For I have given to them the words which You have
given Me; and they have received them , and have known
surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed
that You sent Me. "I pray for them. I do not pray for the
world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are
Yours. "And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I
am glorified in them. "Now I am no longer in the world, but
these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father,
keep through Your name those whom You have given Me,
that they may be one as We are . "While I was with them
in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You
gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the
son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
"But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the
world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.
"I have given them Your word; and the world has hated
them because they are not of the world, just as I am not
of the world. "I do not pray that You should take them out
of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil
one. "They are not of the world, just as I am not of the
world. "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.
"As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into
the world. "And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that
they also may be sanctified by the truth. "I do not pray
for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me
through their word; "that they all may be one, as You,
Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one
in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. "And
the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they
may be one just as We are one: "I in them, and You in Me;
that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world
may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as
You have loved Me. "Father , I desire that they also whom
You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may
behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved
Me before the foundation of the world. "O righteous
Father! The world has not known You, but I have known
You; and these have known that You sent Me. "And I have
declared to them Your name, and will declare it , that the
love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in
them."
Chapter 6 When to Pray
WHEN TO PRAY
A famous evangelist once said he seldom prayed for more than half
an hour but he seldom went more than half an hour without praying!
In other words we can chat to God all the time as well as the times
when we pray more formally. If we see a need, we can talk to God
about it right away rather than wait until our next prayer time.
This does not negate the need for us to set aside a quiet time each
day to talk to God without the interruptions that normally go on
around us.
I like to pray early in the morning sitting in my lounge room before
the rest of my family gets up. This is a good time and place for me
where I can just focus on God and the prayers. I usually pray for
half an hour and read my bible for half an hour. This may not suit
you, perhaps you’d rather go for a walk outside and talk to God as
you go, or perhaps the evening is a better time for you. Either
way, find out what is the best place and time for you and be
determined to give that time to God each day. It doesn’t matter if
it’s an hour or just 5 minutes, the important thing is that it is
regular and it’s just you and God.
If we as parents set aside quality time like that to spend with our
children each day maybe we wouldn’t have so many rebellious
children – but that is material for another book!
In time of NEED
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne
of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find
grace to help in time of need.
Mark 11:24
"Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you
pray, believe that you receive them , and you will have
them .
Always
Both Jesus and Paul encouraged us to pray always. This can
sometimes be taken to mean in all the different ways but it
certainly does mean to pray all the time (or unceasingly).
Luk 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end,
that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Luk 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye
may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that
shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
2Th 1:11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our
God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all
the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith
with power:
1Ti 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting
up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
Col 1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it,
do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might
be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding;
Chapter 7 Different Kinds of Prayer
DIFFERENT KINDS OF PRAYER
Prayer of Faith
Mark 11:22-25 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have
faith in God. "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to
this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and
does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things
he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
"Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you
pray, believe that you receive them , and you will have
them . "And whenever you stand praying, if you have
anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in
heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.
However you pray, it is important to pray in faith, believing
that God is, and that He is a rewarder of those who
diligently seek Him. Believe at the time you pray that you
have the answer to that prayer. You may not see it, the
circumstances may not appear to have changed but when
you pray in faith, in the spiritual world they have already
changed.
Matthew 21:22 "And whatever things you [ask] in prayer,
believing, you will receive."
John 11:22 "But even now I know that whatever You [ask]
of God, God will give You."
John 14:13-14 "And whatever you [ask] in My name, that I
will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. "If
you [ask] anything in My name, I will do it .
John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
you will [ask] what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and
appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that
your fruit should remain, that whatever you [ask] the
Father in My name He may give you.
John 16:23-2 "And in that day you will [ask] Me nothing.
Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you
[ask] the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you
have asked nothing in My name. [Ask], and you will receive,
that your joy may be full.
John 16:26 "In that day you will [ask] in My name, and I do
not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;
James 1:6 But let him [ask] in faith, with no doubting, for
he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed
by the wind.
1 John 3:22 And whatever we [ask] we receive from Him,
because we keep His commandments and do those things
that are pleasing in His sight.
1 John 5:14-15 Now this is the confidence that we have in
Him, that if we [ask] anything according to His will, He
hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we
[ask], we know that we have the petitions that we have
asked of Him.
Prayer of Intercession (Praying for others)
1 Timothy 2:1-4
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers,
intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men,
for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For
this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
who desires all men to be saved and to come to the
knowledge of the truth.

Pray unceasing - maintaining the same confession.
I have read stories of how the intercessor even takes on
some of the suffering, feeling the pain in their own body
until there is a breakthrough.
Intercessory prayer is especially important as it really is
getting into spiritual warfare over a particular person or
matter.
 It is important in the background during church
services to intercede for the pastor and the people in
the service, to stop any demons from their attempts
to disrupt the service.
 It is important to intercede for people in the
ministry.
 It is important to intercede for people who are very
sick.
 It is important to intercede for your nation and your
leaders.
 It is important in time of war.
Petition and Supplication
Petition and Supplication is a more formal way to pray for
specific things or issues. As the name implies it is rather
like when you make a petition to your government. You
have to be prepared, know exactly what you want, and
present to God a formal verbal petition in the name of His
son and your saviour, Jesus.
I have heard of one famous preacher who went to the
trouble of writing out the petition, making an appointment
with God to present it, and then dressing up in his best
suit and tie to present it to God. This may seem a little
extreme, but I think it highlights the importance of this
type of prayer and the degree of significance we should
use.
Sometimes we go to God in prayer as a child goes to their
daddy, but sometimes we need to be more formal when we
present the petition to our God as King of Kings and Lord
of Lords.

Dedication and Worship
The first thing you should do when you pray is to worship God – not
for what you want but for who He is and what He has done.
He is the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings, Almighty God, the Alpha
and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
He is the Lord our God, The Lord our Shepherd, the Lord our
Peace, the Lord our Healer, the Lord our Sanctifier, the Lord our
Righteousness, the Lord our Banner, the Lord our Provider, the
Lord who is here. He is the Eternal Father who loves us (me and
you) so much that He gave His only begotten son so that simply
through believing in Him we are saved, forgiven, made new, old
things have passed away all things are become new.
He did create this planet world and the heavens so perfectly that
this is the only place in the whole universe that has the right
conditions to support life. He created all the mountains and rivers,
the lakes and the valleys, the sunrises and the sunsets, the flowers
and the trees and the crops to eat, He created every different
animal, and He created us in His own image.
His mercy and loving kindness is new every morning – so everytime
you see the sunrise you know He has forgiven you.
Through the Lords prayer we are taught to worship God every time
we pray and dedicate ourselves to God;
Matt 6. 9 "In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom
come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we
forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But
deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the
power and the glory forever. Amen.
As part of our worship and dedicating ourselves, we are taught to
forgive others as God has already forgiven us and He warns us of
the dangers of not forgiving;
"For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will
also forgive you. "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Binding and Loosing
Binding and loosing are old terms which may appear to have
different meaning today than intended. The correct terms to use
would be prohibit or forbid and permit or allow.
(Mark 3:27 NKJV) "No one can enter a strong man's house
and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man.
And then he will plunder his house.
(Mat 16:19 NKJV) "And I will give you the keys of the
kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be
bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be
loosed in heaven."
This passage could read “whatever you “prohibit or ban on earth
will be prohibited or banned in the spiritual realm and whatever you
permit on earth will be permitted in the spiritual realm.”
Praying in the Spirit
John 4:23
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true
worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for
the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
As I have stated before, I am a strong believer in the Holy Spirit
and in praying in tongues, in fact I usually do this every day. All
Prayer should always honour God. Praying in tongues is for when
you don’t know what or how to pray for a particular thing, and will
often lead you to praying in your own language using words you
would not have thought of.
Paul said 1Co 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and
I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit,
and I will sing with the understanding also.
This means we pray both in tongues and in our own language.
We should not only pray in tongues but we should also pray in truth.
God’s word is truth so this means we should also pray what He says
about the matter in the Bible. For instance, you may be praying for
somebody who is sick. Not knowing quite what to say you start off
praying for them in tongues and then the Holy Spirit places a verse
in you heart so you pray that out in your own language. For
example, when my mother was very sick in England my pastor in
Australia prayed for her. but instead of praying for healing, he
prayed for hope! I have to admit I was very disappointed with his
pray but little did I know he was being led by the Holy Spirit when
he prayed. My mother recovered and when I later discussed it
with my her, she told me she wanted to give up and die, but then
she thought about her family and hope began to rise that she would
see them again.
Ephesians 6:17-20 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword
of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all
prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end
with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints; and for
me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth
boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an
ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to
speak.
We also need to make sure that we put on the armour of God when
we become prayer warriors. The devil does not want you to be
successful, he wants you to give up, so make sure you prepare
everyday by putting on the armour as if you were actually getting
dressed.
United Prayer - Prayer of Agreement
Before you pray the prayer of agreement it is essential that you
find out what it is you all can agree to.
This is the prayer of agreement – so if you don’t agree then it’s no
good praying it. Don’t forget that not everyone will have the same
level of faith that you have, not everyone sees the issue in the
same way you see it. They may want it resolved but may be not in
the same way you do.
If a sick person can believe God will guide the hand of a surgeon –
let us agree on that. If another sick person believes God will knock
him down and heal him – let us agree on that.
Christians vote for different parties so you may not be able to
agree on which party or politician should win the election but you
can agree that whoever it is will be guided by God.
Only pray what you are agreed to – do not add or change it in any
way.
Matthew 18:19 "Again I say to you that if two of you
[agree] on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will
be done for them by My Father in heaven.
Matthew 18:20 "For [where two] or three are gathered
together in my name, I am there in the midst of them."
Acts 4:21-31 So when they had further threatened them,
they let them go, finding no way of punishing them,
because of the people, since they all glorified God for what
had been done. For the man was over forty years old on
whom this miracle of healing had been performed. And
being let go, they went to their own companions and
reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to
them. So when they heard that, they raised their voice to
God with one accord and said: "Lord, You are God, who
made heaven and earth and the sea, and all that is in them,
"who by the mouth of your servant David have said: 'Why
did the nations rage, And the people plot vain things? The
kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were
gathered together Against the LORD and against His
Christ.' "For truly against Your holy Servant Jesus, whom
You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the
Gentiles and the people of Israel, were gathered together
"to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose determined
before to be done. "Now, Lord, look on their threats, and
grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may
speak Your word, "by stretching out Your hand to heal,
and that signs and wonders may be done through the name
of Your holy Servant Jesus." And when they had prayed,
the place where they were assembled together was
shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and
they spoke the word of God with boldness.
Praying for the Sick
Like any other prayers, we pray for the sick in faith believing that
god wants them to be well. There are many examples in both the
old and new testament of people being healed. When Jesus was
challenged by John the Baptist he told them to look at his works
most of which were to do with healing.
Luke 7. 22, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard:
 that the blind see,
 the lame walk,
 the lepers are cleansed,
 the deaf hear,
 the dead are raised,
 the poor have the gospel preached to them.
5 out of the 6 things Jesus gave as evidence of His Messiahship
were to do with healing. If that is the evidence that Jesus was the
Messiah, what do you think the evidence should be that we are His
followers?
Jesus went out of his way to find the way that the person would
receive their healing. As a result there are many different ways
that Jesus healed.
How God healed in Jesus ministry
 Laying on of hands
 Through the persons own faith
 Through the faith of their mother
 Through the faith of their father
 Through the faith of their boss
 Through the faith of their friends
 By speaking to the disease
 By casting out.
 By people just touching him.
 By spitting;
 By sticking His fingers in the ears, spitting and touching the
tongue
 Spitting in the eye
 By putting mud and spit balls on their eyes
 He healed on the Sabbath and every other day of the week.
 He had big healing services.
 He conducted small private healing sessions.
 Even when he could do no other sign because of unbelief , He
still healed people.
It is clear that God wants us to be well, to be healed and He even
tells us we are to pray for people to be healed;
Mark 16:17-18 "And these signs will follow those who
believe: In My name they will
 cast out demons;
 they will speak with new tongues;
 "they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything
deadly, it will by no means hurt them;
 they will lay hands on the sick, and they will
recover."
James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick?
 Let him call for the elders of the church,
 and let them pray over him,
 anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
 And the prayer of faith will save the sick,
 and the Lord will raise him up.
 And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Praying for the Church
Praying for the church is extremely important. As we saw in John
17, Jesus placed a high degree of importance on this very subject.
Paul also, in his letters, emphasized the importance of praying for
the church and shows some examples of how he prayed;
Ephesians 1:15-21 Therefore I also, after I heard of your
faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do
not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in
my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the
Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and
revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your
understanding being enlightened; that you may know what
is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory
of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the
exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power which He
worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and
seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places , far
above all principality and power and might and dominion,
and every name that is named, not only in this age but also
in that which is to come.
Philippians 1:9-11 And this I pray, that your love may
abound still more and more in knowledge and all
discernment, that you may approve the things that are
excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till
the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of
righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and
praise of God.
Ephesians 3:14-19 For this reason I bow my knees to the
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole
family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant
you, according to the riches of His glory, to be
strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner
man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able
to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and
length and depth and height; to know the love of Christ
which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the
fullness of God.
Colossians 1:9-12 For this reason we also, since the day we
heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you
may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom
and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of
the Lord, fully pleasing Him , being fruitful in every good
work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
strengthened with all might, according to His glorious
power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving
thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers
of the inheritance of the saints in the light.
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 And may the Lord make you
increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just
as we do to you, so that He may establish your hearts
blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the
coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 Therefore we also pray always for
you that our God would count you worthy of this calling,
and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the
work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to
the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 1:4-8 I thank my God always concerning you
for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ
Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all
utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of
Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no
gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may
be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 4:29-30 "Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant
to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak
Your word, "by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that
signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your
holy Servant Jesus."
Isaiah 54:17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You
shall condemn. This is the [heritage] of the servants of
the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me," Says the
LORD.
Some prayers are not answered - God doesn’t even hear them
Not every prayer gets answered. If you pray against what
God has promised, don’t expect Him to answer. That is
why it is important to make sure there are scriptures to
support your prayer.
Remember, in Christ Jesus all the promises of God are yes
and amen – that means as Christians we can claim any
promise God has made in the Bible.
If you have unconfessed sin in your life, or you are being
rebellious against God, don’t expect Him to answer.
If you mistreat your wife, the scriptures warn us our
prayers may be hindered;
1 Peter 3:7 Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with
understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker
vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life,
that your prayers may not be hindered.
Don’t keep chopping and changing what you are asking for
or what you are believing.
Jam 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he
that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the
wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall
receive any thing of the Lord.
Make sure you have the right motive for what you are
asking.
James 4:3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask
amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
Chapter 8 Sample Prayers
SAMPLE PRAYERS by myself and others
The Lord’s Prayer
Taken from the Contemporary English Version Matthew 6:5 – 15.
When you pray, don't be like those show-offs who love to stand up
and pray in the meeting places and on the street corners. They do
this just to look good. I can assure you that they already have
their reward.
When you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to
your Father in private. He knows what is done in private, and he will
reward you.
When you pray, don't talk on and on as people do who don't know
God. They think God likes to hear long prayers.
Don't be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you
ask.
You should pray like this:
 Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name.
 Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will
obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven.
 Give us our food for today.
 Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others.
 Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil.
If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in
heaven will forgive you. But if you don't forgive others, your
Father will not forgive your sins.
Psalm 23 (A psalm by David.)
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
You, LORD, are my shepherd. I will never be in need.
You let me rest in fields of green grass. You lead me to streams of
peaceful water, and you refresh my life.
You are true to your name, and you lead me along the right paths.
I may walk through valleys as dark as death, but I won't be afraid.
You are with me, and your shepherd's rod makes me feel safe.
You treat me to a feast, while my enemies watch.
You honor me as your guest, and you fill my cup until it overflows.
Your kindness and love will always be with me each day of my life,
and I will live forever in your house, LORD.
Psalm 91 (A psalm by David.)
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
I live under the protection of God Most High and stay in the
shadow of God All-Powerful.
I will say to the LORD, "You are my fortress, my place of safety;
you are my God, and I trust you." The Lord will keep me safe from
secret traps and deadly diseases. He will spread his wings over me
and keep me secure. His faithfulness is like a shield or a city wall.
I won't need to worry about dangers at night or arrows during the
day. And I won't fear diseases that strike in the dark or sudden
disaster at noon. I will not be harmed, though thousands fall all
around me. And with my own eyes I will see the punishment of the
wicked.
The LORD Most High is my fortress. I run to him for safety, and
no terrible disasters will strike me or my home.
God will command his angels to protect me wherever I go. They will
carry me in their arms, and I won't hurt my feet on the stones.
I will overpower the strongest lions and the most deadly snakes.
The Lord says, "If you love me and truly know who I am, I will
rescue you and keep you safe. When you are in trouble, call out to
me. I will answer and be there to protect and honor you. You will
live a long life and see my saving power."
For Forgiveness
Father God, as your child, I come into your throne room to find
grace and mercy in this my time of need. I come to you in the name
of your son Jesus who suffered and died for me on the cross. He
took upon himself all my sins and made himself to be the sacrificial
lamb for my sins. I confess that I have sinned against you by
choosing not to obey your commands and placing myself above your
Word. I have sinned by omission and commission. I specifically
confess the sin(s) of ________________ _________________
and I ask you to forgive me of these and all my sins. I truly repent
and turn away from these sins and proclaim that, from this moment
on, I refuse to continue to do these things but rather I will obey
your commands and plans for my life. Holy Spirit of God please
help me to overcome temptation, to flee youthful lusts and to think
on those things that are pure and innocent, lovely and just and true
and of a good report. Help me to fulfill all God’s plans for my life. I
claim the blood of my Lord Jesus over my sins and thank you
Father that as I have confessed my sins you are faithful and just
to forgive me and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. You are
the Lord who forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.
Where my sin has damaged or hindered anyone else I ask that you
help me to help them to overcome, that you will prosper them and
bless them in the name of Jesus. Amen
Psalm 103 (A psalm by David.)
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
With all my heart I praise the LORD, and with all that I am I
praise his holy name!
With all my heart I praise the LORD! I will never forget how kind
he has been.
The LORD forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, and
protects us from death. His kindness and love are a crown on our
heads.
Each day that we live, he provides for our needs and gives us the
strength of a young eagle.
For all who are mistreated, the LORD brings justice.
He taught his Law to Moses and showed all Israel what he could do.
The LORD is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never
fails.
The LORD won't always be angry and point out our sins; he doesn't
punish us as our sins deserve.
How great is God's love for all who worship him? Greater than the
distance between heaven and earth!
How far has the LORD taken our sins from us? Farther than the
distance from east to west!
Just as parents are kind to their children, the LORD is kind to all
who worship him, because he knows we are made of dust.
We humans are like grass or wild flowers that quickly bloom.
But a scorching wind blows, and they quickly wither to be forever
forgotten.
The LORD is always kind to those who worship him, and he keeps
his promises to their descendants who faithfully obey him.
God has set up his kingdom in heaven, and he rules the whole
creation.
All of you mighty angels, who obey God's commands, come and
praise your LORD!
All of you thousands who serve and obey God, come and praise your
LORD!
All of God's creation and all that he rules, come and praise your
LORD! With all my heart I praise the LORD!
Psalm 121 (A song for worship.)
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
I look to the hills! Where will I find help? It will come from the
LORD, who created the heavens and the earth.
The LORD is my protector, and he won't go to sleep or let me
stumble.
My protector doesn't doze or ever get drowsy.
The LORD is my protector, there at my right side to shade me
from the sun.
I won't be harmed by the sun during the day or by the moon at
night.
The LORD will protect me and keep me safe from all dangers.
The LORD will protect me now and always wherever I go.
In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
Psalm 151 A Psalm Of Praise
(a psalm by Phil Spurling (you wont find this one in the Bible – or will
you?)
God is Real, He Lives and wants us to live with Him.
He is so patient and forgiving, He loves us so much that He gave
His only son to suffer and die for us that we may receive total
forgiveness and be made righteous as He is righteous.
I don’t understand why He didn’t just give up on us and destroy us
for we have let Him down so many times. Even now we still sin
and are disobedient, yet He forgives us.
He loves us and does everything He can to keep us. He is so good
to us, why are we not good to Him?
He has always made sure we have food to eat, a home to live in and
friends to support us.
He has healed us and answered our prayers so many times
He gives us His spirit to counsel, guide, comfort, help and
strengthen us. He forgives me and cleanses me of all
unrighteousness.
He hears my prayers and answers them. He knows what is best for
me and He satisfies my soul with good things.
He gives His angels charge over me and protects me from harm.
He blesses my family and leads them on the path of righteousness.
He walks with me, talks to me, listens to me, and carries me
through the tough times.
I love the Lord my God and put my trust in Him.
We are His children and He thinks the world of us. He looks after
us as a good father should. We live in His house and serve in His
business. He gives us good things.
Oh God forgive me. I am determined to change my ways and not to
let you down. Help me to know and do what you want me to do. To
be the person you want me to be.
Jesus you are my Lord and Saviour, I love you and honour you, I
thank you for the sacrifice you have made and the gifts you
have given me.
Holy Spirit, fill me and pour out the love of God into my heart so
that it overflows with love.
You o Lord have great plans for me, plans to prosper me not to
harm me, plans to give me hope and a future. Let them be. If
my plans differ from yours, let thy will be done.
Salvation for Others
Almighty God I pray in the name of Jesus for

Him unless his Father draws them, so I ask that you draw
________________ to your Son Jesus. Soften their hearts to
your word, renew their mind, and send the right labourers
across their path who are anointed to minister to him/her. In
the name of Jesus I command Satan and all his evil forces to
release them and to stop their deceiving activities concerning
them. Let them be free to worship the true living God. Let
them hear the gospel. Let them believe the gospel. Let them
make Jesus Lord and may they live in your house forevermore.
For our Country & Leaders
Father, in the name of Jesus we pray for our country, we pray for
all the people in this nation, for our king/queen/president/prime
minister, our government and for those in positions of authority
over us.
We pray that they may experience your grace, that they may know
you, that their hearts will be softened towards your gospel that
your people will have favour with them. We pray that they may
have eyes that see the right way to go, the right path to follow and
that you give them wisdom and boldness to make the right
decisions for this nation based on your word and according to your
ways. We pray that they will be men and women of integrity,
honesty, and compassion. That they will be fair to all and caring to
those in real need.
May our leaders lead us to you and not away from you, to living as
you have called us to live and not according to the ways of evil.
Your word says that if your people will confess their sins and
repent that you will heal their land, so in the name of Jesus we
confess our sins. We have been a disobedient and selfish
generation, we have allowed all forms of evil and sin to invade this
nation. We have corrupted our values and beliefs but we now
repent and ask for your help to change our ways, to change this
nation and to influence the world so that your name will be
glorified. Help us to preach the gospel to every nation, not just by
what we say but by the way we live our lives. In the name of Jesus
we cast down those idols we have worshipped instead of you, we
cast aside those things that we allowed to take your rightful place
in our lives.
We ask you to forgive us, to heal this nation and we invite Jesus to
be Lord of this nation.
For Forthcoming Elections
Father, in the name of Jesus I pray for the elections that are
coming up. I ask that the right men and women be chosen to
represent us in government. Men and women you have chosen, who
will be obedient to you, who will hear you voice clearly and will not
bend to evil ways. Men and women who will lead us to you not away
from you, who will break down the barriers between God and man,
who will have the courage and boldness to stand up for what is
right. Give us good leaders oh God, who will be a blessing to us and
not a curse. In the name of Jesus may you be glorified in our
government.
Amen

achieve her goals, and that your grace will abound towards her so
that in all things she will always have every sufficiency and an

guide and comfort her, and may she dwell in your house forever.

seeking first your kingdom and your righteousness. I pray that you
will not allow their feet to slip or to be moved except towards you,
that they may hear your voice, obey you and that they will not
respond to the voice of a stranger. I pray that they will be
Guardians of happiness, blessed peace, pure and innocent, Holy
before the Lord. Protect them from evil oh Lord and guide them
with your eye. Give your angels charge over them to keep them in
all their ways and to lift them up lest they dash their foot against
a stone. May they meditate on those things that are lovely, just,
true, honest and pure, If there be anything praiseworthy or of a
good report let them think on those things.
Prosper them in all their ways, let your grace abound towards
them. As you presented your son Jesus to us, I present my
children to you, I am well pleased with each of them and I ask you
to hear them when they call out to you. Allow them into your

what ever they are doing. Pour out your blessings upon them I pray
and I give you thanks that they have grown to become people of
whom I have the highest regard.
In the name of your son and my Lord Jesus. Amen
For Pastors/Ministers
Father, in the name of Jesus, we pray for our Pastors, elders and
leaders in the church. They are your servants so we know that in
the name of Jesus, no weapon formed against them shall prosper
and every tongue raised against them in judgment shall be
condemned. Oh Lord, fill them with your spirit, give them wisdom
and revelation in the knowledge of you and your word. Anoint them
and give them the gifts of the spirit to enable them to be
effective ministers of your word. Provide for their every need,
watch over and protect their families, may their homes be filled
with joy, forgiveness, healing, peace and love and laughter.
May they abound in love for you and for one another. Encourage
and strengthen them, unite them, teach them, protect them. May

which you have called them.

protect us by protecting them, teach us by teaching them, comfort
us by comforting them.
Prosper them in all they do, may all of their needs be met according
to your riches in glory by Christ Jesus, and may all grace abound
towards them so that they will always have an abundance for every
good work.
If any have fallen to temptation, the strain of overwork, sickness
or worry, if they have not paid attention to your word or your Holy
Spirit or neglected their marriages and family in anyway, forgive
them we pray. Send those who are spiritual to help them and
restore them.
May they receive the honour due to them as the chosen servants
of the Lord most high. In the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen
Tithing
Almighty God who created the heavens and the earth, we thank you
that you love us so much that you have given your own beloved son
that we may be saved. The earth is yours and the fullness thereof
and in demonstration of our faith in you as Jehovah Jireh the Lord
our Provider, we bring to you the tithe of our increase. In the
name of Jesus, we bring our full tithe into your storehouse that
there may be food in your house and we challenge you to prove to
us that you will open up the windows of heaven, that you will pour
out such blessings there will not be enough room to receive them,
that you will rebuke the devourer for our sakes, that our crops will
not fail, that we will be fruitful, that people will call us blessed
and we will be a delightful land.
May you bless this offering that it may produce an abundance of
blessings and be used to bless and feed your people.
Your word says that ‘if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy’
Therefore I believe that all my income is holy and blessed as much
as this first piece is. In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
For Financial Blessings/Needs
Father your word says that you are able to make all grace abound
towards us so that we will always have all sufficiency in all things,
that we may have abundance for every good work. I therefore ask
you as the Lord my Provider to let all grace abound towards me so
that I may have abundance to give to every good work. I sow this
seed that you have provided and ask that you show me where to
sow, when to sow, how to sow, help me to prepare the soil, to
nurture the seed, and to reap the harvest. Give me wisdom in
financial and business matters so that I may be the head and not
the tail, above and not beneath, to lend and not to have to borrow.
To be a blessing, a vessel you can use to bless others. In the
name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
Phil 4. 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in
glory by Christ Jesus.
For your Church
Father, in the name of Jesus we pray for our church, our home
group and friends in the church, and for all the churches and
followers of Christ in our city. We pray that we may abound in love
one for another, that we may be one in Jesus just as you and Jesus
are one. We pray that we may be a church full of faith, caring for
one another and reaching out to the world. We pray that the Holy
Spirit will be our constant guide, helper, comforter, counselor,
strengthener, advocate, intercessor. We pray that we may have all
the gifts of the Holy Spirit manifest in our church to enable us to
better minister to others. We pray that we will be found to be
true worshippers who worship you in spirit and in truth.
God bless our pastors, teachers, leaders, the staff, elders and
board of our church and\all the churches in this city. Give them
wisdom and may they know your will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding. May they have peace, joy, love and may all their
needs be met.
Do not allow our feet to slip or to be moved except towards you.
Lead us on the path of righteousness. Forgive us of our sins as we
forgive all those who have sinned against us. May there be favour,
protection, healing, prosperity and safety for every member of the
church and home group and for their families. May the fruit of the
spirit be abundant in the church – love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, meekness, patience, faithfulness, self control. May we
be like salt, a living witness, a light unto the world shining brightly
on the mountain top so that all will see your love clearly. May we
have a clear understanding of your purpose for the church and may
we all do our best to fulfill your mission by preaching the gospel,
making disciples, laying hands on the sick and casting out demons.
We lift up our Lord Jesus the Christ and glorify your name and as
we do so, we ask you to draw all men to your son Jesus.
Amen.
Authority
I thank you Father that Jesus defeated Satan and all Hell’s
resources and returned the Keys of the Kingdom to us. He told us
that whatever we bind or prohibit on earth will be prohibited in
Heaven and whatever we loose or permit on earth will be allowed in
Heaven. Your word also says that whatever we ask for in the name
of Jesus you will give us. So in the name of my Lord Jesus Christ
the son of God, We bind and prohibit _________________ and
we loose and permit _________. And we pray that others will be
blessed through this and that your name will be glorified. In the
name of our Lord Jesus the Son of God.
For Healing
Father in the name of Jesus I come before you to pray for the
healing of _____________. There are so many examples in your
word where you found ways to heal people. Some you spoke to,
some you touched, some touched you, some you cast out demons
from, some you made spit balls and put it on their eyes and many
more ways did you find to heal. You told us to only believe, so we
believe. You instructed us to pray for the sick, to preach the
gospel and lay hands on them with a promise that they will recover.
So in the name of Jesus I lay hands on ____________ and I pray
believing that you are healing them right now in the name of Jesus.
You told us that whatever we ask in the name of Jesus that you will
do that the father may be glorified. So let God be glorified and
may__________ be healed and all their sins forgiven..
Matt 8. 16When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were
possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all
that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the
prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses
Is 53. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our
iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes
we are healed.
He gave His disciples power to cure diseases and heal the sick
Luke 9.1Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power
and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach
the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
Acts 28.8And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and
of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on
him, and healed him. So when this was done, others also, which had diseases
in the island, came, and were healed.
Acts 19.11And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: So that
from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the
diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
Matt 18.19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as
touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father
which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name,
there am I in the midst of them.
James 5.14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church;
and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up;
and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
By Faith
Mark 11. 22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For
verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou
removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but
shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have
whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire,
when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Check it out with the Doctor and give God the glory
Luke 17. 14And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves
unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a
loud voice glorified God,
Psalm 112 Blessings for God’s People
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
Shout praises to the LORD! The LORD blesses everyone who
worships him and gladly obeys his teachings. Their descendants
will have great power in the land, because the LORD blesses all who
do right. They will get rich and prosper and will always be
remembered for their fairness. They will be so kind and merciful
and good, that they will be a light in the dark for others who do
the right thing. Life will go well for those who freely lend and are
honest in business. They won't ever be troubled, and the kind
things they do will never be forgotten. Bad news won't bother
them; they have decided to trust the LORD. They are dependable
and not afraid, and they will live to see their enemies defeated.
They will always be remembered and greatly praised, because they
were kind and freely gave to the poor. When evil people see this,
they angrily bite their tongues and disappear. They will never get
what they really want.
In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
To Forgive Others
Lord you know how I have been mistreated. You know all the facts
on this matter whereby _______________________(names)
have said or done the following;
______________________________________________
I declare right now before you and all the hosts of heaven that I
forgive these people for the way they have treated me. I forgive
them totally and unconditionally. Help me to love them and to
understand their position, If I have done anything wrong or to
cause this treatment, I ask you also to forgive me and show me how
I may make amends.
I do not seek revenge on this matter and I ask you to forgive them.
Lead them to your son Jesus, may they come to know you, to
experience your love, and to believe your gospel. Send your
labourers across their path and bless them in all their ways. May
their families be safe and well and their homes a refuge of peace.
In the name of Jesus I break down any walls that have been
erected between us and ask you Holy Spirit to shed the love of God
into my heart to help me to love more..
Amen
Psalm 145 (By David for praise.)
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
I will praise you, my God and King, and always honor your name. I
will praise you each day and always honor your name.
You are wonderful, LORD, and you deserve all praise, because you
are much greater than anyone can understand. Each generation will
announce to the next your wonderful and powerful deeds.
I will keep thinking about your marvelous glory and your mighty
miracles. Everyone will talk about your fearsome deeds, and I will
tell all nations how great you are. They will celebrate and sing
about your matchless mercy and your power to save. You are
merciful, LORD! You are kind and patient and always loving. You are
good to everyone, and you take care of all your creation. All
creation will thank you, and your loyal people will praise you. They
will tell about your marvelous kingdom and your power. Then
everyone will know about the mighty things you do and your glorious
kingdom.
Your kingdom will never end, and you will rule forever. Our LORD,
you keep your word and do everything you say. When someone
stumbles or falls, you give a helping hand.
Everyone depends on you, and when the time is right, you provide
them with food. By your own hand you satisfy the desires of all
who live.
Our LORD, everything you do is kind and thoughtful, and you are
near to everyone whose prayers are sincere. You satisfy the
desires of all your worshipers, and you come to save them when
they ask for help.
You take care of everyone who loves you, but you destroy the
wicked. I will praise you, LORD, and everyone will respect your holy
name forever.
In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
Psalm 143 (A psalm by David calling for help.)
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
Listen, LORD, as I pray! You are faithful and honest and will
answer my prayer. I am your servant. Don't try me in your court,
because no one is innocent by your standards.
My enemies are chasing me, crushing me in the ground. I am in total
darkness, like someone long dead. I have given up all hope, and I
feel numb all over. I remember to think about the many things you
did in years gone by.
Then I lift my hands in prayer, because my soul is a desert, thirsty
for water from you.
Please hurry, LORD, and answer my prayer. I feel hopeless. Don't
turn away and leave me here to die. Each morning let me learn more
about your love because I trust you. I come to you in prayer, asking
for your guidance.
Please rescue me from my enemies, LORD! I come to you for
safety. You are my God. Show me what you want me to do, and let
your gentle Spirit lead me in the right path.
Be true to your name, LORD, and keep my life safe. Use your saving
power to protect me from trouble. I am your servant. Show how
much you love me by destroying my enemies.
In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
Psalm 71
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame.
Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline
Your ear to me, and save me. Be my strong refuge, To which I may
resort continually;
You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock
and my fortress. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the
wicked, Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. For You
are my hope, O Lord GOD;
You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from
birth; You are He who took me out of my mother's womb. My praise
shall be continually of You.
I have become as a wonder to many, But You are my strong refuge.
Let my mouth be filled with Your praise And with Your glory all the
day. Do not cast me off in the time of old age; Do not forsake me
when my strength fails.
For my enemies speak against me; And those who lie in wait for my
life take counsel together, Saying, “God has forsaken him; Pursue
and take him, for there is none to deliver him.”
O God, do not be far from me; O my God, make haste to help me!
Let them be confounded and consumed Who are adversaries of my
life;
Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor Who seek my
hurt.
But I will hope continually, And will praise You yet more and more.
My mouth shall tell of Your righteousness And Your salvation all
the day,
For I do not know their limits.
I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will make mention of
Your righteousness, of Yours only.
O God, You have taught me from my youth; And to this day I
declare Your wondrous works.
Now also when I am old and gray headed, O God, do not forsake
me,
Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to
everyone who is to come.
Also Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You who have done
great things; O God, who is like You?
You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, Shall revive me
again, And bring me up again from the depths of the earth. You
shall increase my greatness, And comfort me on every side.
Also with the lute I will praise You And Your faithfulness, O my
God! To You I will sing with the harp, O Holy One of Israel. My
lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, And my soul, which
You have redeemed.
My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long;
For they are confounded, For they are brought to shame Who
seek my hurt.
In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
For those under attack
Based on Deut 20 and @ Kings 6
Lord we pray for __________ who right now is going through a
war and finds themselves under attack facing an enemy army with
horses and chariots. May _________ not be afraid! O LORD God
for we trust you to rescue them and to help them fight this battle.
For the battle is yours.
Before we march into battle, as your priests we go first praise you
and honour you. and say, to _____________ “Today when you go
into battle, don't be afraid of the enemy, and when you see them,
don't panic. The LORD your God will fight alongside you and help
you win the battle."
The enemy may have ordered his best troops to go there with
horses and chariots. They have marched out during the night and
surrounded _________and like Elisha's servant all we see with our
eyes are the enemy troops as they surrounding us, but we know
from your word that "There are more troops on our side than on
theirs." We pray, "LORD, please help us to see." Open our eyes
that we may see that the hill is covered with your fiery horses and
flaming chariots all around us.
As the enemy’s forces come closer, we pray, "LORD, make those
soldiers blind!" blind them with a bright light. Tell the enemy
troops, they have taken the wrong road and are in the wrong town.
Lead them far away from here. And when all the soldiers are far
away from us LORD do not destroy them but, now let them see
again that your hand is upon _________ .May they be nourished
and may they attack us no more.
And we ask you to continually bless and prosper ____________ in
all their ways. In the name of you son and our Lord Jesus
Amen.
Psalm 1
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
God blesses those people who refuse evil advice and won't follow
sinners or join in sneering at God. Instead, the Law of the LORD
makes them happy, and they think about it day and night.
They are like trees growing beside a stream, trees that produce
fruit in season and always have leaves. Those people succeed in
everything they do.
That isn't true of those who are evil, because they are like straw
blown by the wind. Sinners won't have an excuse on the day of
judgment, and they won't have a place with the people of God.
The LORD protects everyone who follows him, but the wicked
follow a road that leads to ruin.
In the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen
Psalm 37
Taken from the Contemporary English Version
Oh Lord help me not to be annoyed or envy anyone who does wrong,
for they will soon disappear like grass without rain. I trust you
LORD and choose to live right! The land will be mine, and I will be
safe. I will do what the LORD wants, and he will give me my heart's
desire. The LORD will lead me and I trust him to help.
I will Be patient and trust the LORD. I won’t let it bother me
when all goes well for those who do sinful things. I won’t be angry
or furious. Anger can lead to sin. All sinners will disappear, but if I
trust the LORD, the land will be mine.
Sinners will soon disappear, never to be found, but the poor will
take the land and enjoy a big harvest. Merciless people make plots
against good people and snarl like animals, but the Lord laughs and
knows their time is coming soon. The wicked kill with swords and
shoot arrows to murder the poor and the needy and all who do
right. But they will be killed by their own swords, and their arrows
will be broken.
It is better to live right and be poor than to be sinful and rich.
The wicked will lose all of their power, but the LORD gives
strength to everyone who is good. Those who obey the LORD are
daily in his care, and what he has given them will be theirs forever.
They won't be in trouble when times are bad, and they will have
plenty when food is scarce.
Wicked people are enemies of the LORD and will vanish like smoke
from a field on fire. An evil person borrows and never pays back; a
good person is generous and never stops giving. Everyone the LORD
blesses will receive the land; everyone the LORD curses will be
destroyed. If I do what the LORD wants, he will make certain each
step I take is sure. The LORD will hold my hand, and if I stumble, I
still won't fall. As long as I can remember, good people have never
been left helpless, and their children have never gone begging for
food. They gladly give and lend, and their children turn out good.
If I stop sinning and start doing right, I will keep living and be
secure forever. The LORD loves justice, and he won't ever desert
his faithful people. He always protects them, but destroys the
children of the wicked. God's people will own the land and live here
forever.
Words of wisdom come when good people speak for justice. They
remember God's teachings, and they never take a wrong step. The
wicked try to trap and kill good people, but the LORD is on their
side, and he will defend them when they are on trial. I will trust
the LORD and follow him. He will give me the land, and I will see
the wicked destroyed. I have seen brutal people abuse others and
grow strong like trees in rich soil. Suddenly they disappeared! I
looked, but they were gone and no longer there. I think of the
bright future waiting for all the families of honest and innocent
and peace-loving people. But not a trace will be left of the wicked
or their families. The LORD protects his people, and they can
come to him in times of trouble. The LORD helps them and saves
them from the wicked because they run to him.
Prayer of Jabez
Father God, In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I pray that you
would bless me indeed (heaps) and enlarge my territory so that I
may be a blessing to everyone I meet. I pray that Your hand would
be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not
cause pain and I ask you to help me walk in the love of God that has
been shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Ghost that others may
benefit form your love. Jesus said whatever I ask the Father in
His name, you would give me so I give thanks right now that you

help me, strengthen me, counsel me, reveal your will to me and
bring your word to my remembrance.
Fill me with your Spirit oh God, with your power and with your love.
Shed your love into my heart so that I may love others as you love
them.
Enthuse me, so that your love and your power become part of my
life.
Give me gifts that I may be a blessing to others and that Jesus will
be glorified.
Help me to pray according to your will in my own language and in
languages that only you will understand.
Help me to know you more, to know your will, to do your will and let
your light shine through me.
May others see you when they look at me, may they see your light,
may they be inspired by your words, may they be encouraged by
your spirit.
For Grace
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I ask that you Lord to make
all grace abound towards me so that in all things I will always have
all sufficiency and abundance for every good work. I ask for grace
for forgiveness, safety, health, in my relationships with others, to
turn the other cheek when I am abused for His names sake. I also
ask that you enable me and teach me to use this grace that I may
become a blessing to those in need including those who have
offended me. I pray that this grace will enable me to be a blessing
to your people and to your work. That I may become a channel for
your grace to reach other people. Amen

So in the name of Jesus, we bring this matter to you. We ask the
Holy Spirit to guide our prayers on this matter that we may pray
according to your will. We therefore pray that in this
matter;____________________________________ We stand
together on this matter and declare that we are in total agreement
and believe that we have your favour and have prayed according to
your will on this matter. Therefore we believe that this result is
now achieved and give you thanks in the name of Jesus. Amen.
For Important Decisions and Plans
Father God, I have important decisions to make and work to do for
which I seek your guidance and help. I present these goals and
plans to you and in particular the following matter;
_______________________________________________
Your word says that you already have plans for me, plans to prosper
me not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future. My desire
is that your plans be fulfilled in my life so I ask you to help me
make the decision that will comply with your plans for me. If I
have any unconfessed sin in my life I ask you to bring it to my
attention now that I may confess and repent so that there may be
no barrier between you and me.
In the name of your son and my Lord Jesus, I ask that you show me
all the facts regarding these matters that will help me to make the
right decisions. Help me to see things clearly and to clearly hear
your voice. Send the right people along to help me and advise me
and let me have the wisdom to be able to determine what is good
and Godly counsel.
May your kingdom come and your will be done in these matters and
in all areas of my life.
May I hear the voice of the good shepherd and follow but may I
not follow the voice of a stranger.
May I know your will concerning this matter with all wisdom and
spiritual understanding.
May my spirit not be satisfied until I see things your way and make
the right decisions. When I arrive at the right conclusion may I
experience the peace of God which passes all understanding even
though in the natural it may seem strange.
Give me the strength, wisdom and courage not to be led by those
who would lead me astray, but may I be led by the Holy Spirit who
dwells in me. And give me the strength and boldness to carry out
the plan as you have shown me. I now commit my plans and ways to
you and trust that they will succeed. I pray that you will be
honored and your name glorified. May my plans be successful as I
fulfill your plans for my life. I pray this in the name of Jesus
Christ my Lord and Saviour. Amen
