DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my wonderful wife Dena who has nagged me for many years to write a book and has been such a wonderful friend, partner, wife for over 33 years now.

It is also dedicated to my three children, Edward, Thomas and Katarina of whom I am so proud and grateful that God has His hand upon them and they have been receptive to Him. I can’t claim to be a great father but with God’s help we have not experienced the same problems other good parents of today have had.

To our Pastors, friends and Home Cell at Riverview Church who have helped and encouraged me so much especially during the past 2 years or so whilst I was going through my own trials and tribulations.

And finally of course, the name I should put first in my life, the Lord Jesus who suffered and died for me.

1.              INTRODUCTION

Many people question the need to be saved.  They say if God is so good why would He send anyone to Hell? Well, as someone who has read the Bible a few times, let me tell you my version of the story so far….

The Bible tells us that in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, He created the land and the seas, the plants and the trees, the animals, birds and fish, and He created man.  He gave man (Adam) dominion over all He had created.  Adam was therefore Lord over the earth, he had authority given to him by God to rule the earth.  As a demonstration of his authority, Adam named all the animals and plants.  What he said, went.

Man (Adam) was Lord over the earth and God was Lord over man.  That is how life was meant to be.

Then the devil came along in the form of a serpent and tried to deceive Adam and Eve and to make himself Lord... Both Adam and Eve  chose to believe the serpent rather than God.  Adam did what the Devil told them, then he lied to God and tried to deceive God.  By this action, man made the Devil his lord.

The word Lord means one who has supreme authority over someone.  In the New Testament there is a story of a centurion who asked Jesus to heal his servant, and he told Jesus that he was a man in authority.  The centurion defined authority as when he told his servant to go somewhere, the servant would go, or he would tell his servant to do something and he would do it.

So when the Devil told man to eat the fruit and the man ate it, when he told him a lie about God and the man believed it instead of believing what God said, man effectively said God is no longer my Lord – the Devil is.

I do not believe that God sends any man to Hell.  God’s wish is that we all get saved.  Hell is meant for the Devil, but the Devil will take with him all who belong to him.  That is to say everyone who is not saved. The devil wants to take you too and the only way to stop him is to make Jesus the Lord of your life.

When a country goes to war, the people do not declare war on the other nation, it’s the leaders (or lords) who declare the war.  But it is not just the leaders who are at war, all the people in that country are at war too and it is the people who suffer.  If the country loses the war and taken away into slavery – again it is the people who belong to that country who are made slaves not just the government.

In the same way, we will face the same penalty that our lord faces.  If our lord is going to Hell, then that is where we will be going,  if our Lord is in heaven, then we will go to heaven.

WELL, HERE’S GODS PLAN….

The Devil won his followers by deceit, but God is not deceitful, He is not a liar and can therefore only redeem people by doing what is legal.

In His search to find a legal way to save people from a life under a wicked lord,  God found a man who would believe in Him and who agreed to make Him his God.  The man was called Abram and God entered into a covenant with him and changed his name to Abraham.  Abraham was not the saviour but it was through his line that the saviour would legally enter into the world.

Like Adam before him, Abraham listened to his wife instead of God and as a result had 2 sons one through his wife’s servant, and one through his wife Sarah.  The one born of the servant woman (Ishmael) became the father of all Arabs.  The one born of Abrahams real wife (Isaac) became the father of the Jews.

Then there was Jacob whom God renamed Israel, and Jacob was the father of the original 12 tribes of Israel.  But Jacob was a deceiver and certainly was not the saviour.

Jacob’s son Joseph was used mightily by God to deliver His people from famine, but Joseph was not the saviour.

Moses was a great pastor whom God used to deliver His people out of slavery.  Moses was my personal favourite as he defended his people from God’s wrath by placing himself on the line after the people had rebelled and turned to worship other gods.  But Moses was not the saviour.

David, the Bible tells us was a man after God’s own heart but he had an affair with a woman and arranged for her husband to be killed. David was not the saviour.

Eventually God found a virgin called Mary and placed His own seed in her so she gave birth to a boy who was not corrupted by the seed of man.  This boy was God’s own son and was called Jesus.  Like the men of God before him, the Devil tried to destroy him and tested him to see if he really was worthy to be the one to redeem the people.  The Devil must have thought he had won when Jesus was crucified, beaten and killed.  But Jesus did not deserve death, he was pure, a perfect sacrifice. His holiness and purity defeated the Devil and Jesus rose from death after only 3 days.

Now get this - God clearly told the world and the Devil what He was going to do – many times Jesus was prophesied by the prophets of old.  Jesus entered the world in the legal way – through natural birth.  Jesus lived as a man, freely walking the earth and available to every form of test the Devil could think of.

Jesus is now at the right hand of God, and when we make him our Lord, that is where we are headed.  In fact we are given the right to become the children of God, too.

2.              WELL, GOD WANTS YOU!

WELL, WHAT ABOUT ME?

God cares about all of us. He even cares about the little sparrow and He knows you better than you do.  How many hairs do you have on your head?  Unless you are totally bald, I am sure you cannot answer that question - but God can.

Matt 10. 29Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Jesus said He came to give us abundant Life…John 10. 10 …. I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

GOD IS NOT WILLING THAT ANYONE SHOULD PERISH

God says He is not willing that anyone should perish but wants us all to come to the knowledge of the Truth.  But we all have free will and it is up to us to accept God or not.

  • You cannot earn your salvation. Only Jesus can and has already done that. Salvation is a gift from God. All we have to do is to accept the grace of God for it is by grace that we are saved.  We receive that grace through faith.

Eph 2.8. says For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

  • Ephesians tells us that grace is the GIFT of God. You cannot earn it, it is not payment for works done but it is a free gift.
  • Bible scholars tell us that grace is God’s unmerited favour. We do not deserve to receive His grace. It is the favour of God.

God wants YOU!

  • He sent His son to die for us. That’s you and me. Jesus died that we might have everlasting life.

John 3.16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

  • God DRAWS us to His son, - In 1986 He drew me to Jesus and now He is also drawing you too.(John 6.44). If you are reading this then it is because God is drawing you to His son.  It is no accident, you have been personally picked out by God Himself.

In John 6.44 Jesus says “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

  • He commanded the church to tell you about Jesus.

Matt 28.18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:

and Mark 16:15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

  • He Has Great Plans For You

Jer 29.11 (LB) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

This is the true grace of God in action.  Not only did He work to find a way for us to be saved but even after He did all He could, He did more and still does more today in that He seeks us out and draws us to the place we can receive His grace.

If you are reading this now, whether or not you are a Christian, whether or not you are a good person or not, whether or not you are rich or poor, young or old, sick or healthy, successful or unsuccessful, married or single or divorced or widowed or ‘living together’,  God is drawing you to His son that you might receive His mighty grace and live forever with Him.

Think about it.  This God who is the creator of the heavens and the earth.  Who knows all things, against whom all the rich and famous and most powerful of men pale into insignificance.  This awesome God has taken the time to seek you out.   Man has often tried to find God, but in reality it’s God who finds us.

Well, This is Salvation - To be Born Again

Although many people think the term Born Again is a new concept applied to a certain type of Christian in the 20th Century, it is actually a term first mentioned by Jesus when He was speaking to Nicodemus;

John 3.3-7  Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"

Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

"That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

"Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

When we first came into the world, we were born via a natural physical process through our parents. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour, our spirit is born again – it becomes a new creation.  We still have our old body and soul, same skills and thoughts.  Nothing else has changed yet, except that we are now children of God.

Jesus tells us that we must all be Born Again, otherwise we will not be able to see the Kingdom of God. Even if some churches do not use the term Born Again, if they believe the basic tenets of Christianity;

  • That Jesus is the Son of God,
  • He is one with God, True God from True God,
  • He was born of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Spirit,
  • He was crucified and died for our sins and rose again on the third day,

then no matter what term they use to describe it, they are Born Again.

The Bible tells us in Genesis that God created Adam and gave him dominion over all the earth and over all that was on the earth, and he could eat of anything in the garden of Eden except the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  Instead of obeying God, he obeyed the devil who had deceived Eve, and ate of that tree. In so doing, Adam handed over all his rights to Satan and allowed a curse to come upon mankind.  Man was now lost, spiritually dead and unable to fellowship with God.

It is important that everyone realises that Jesus is the only way by which you can be saved. Not by doing good works, not by believing in God, not by worshipping Buddha or any other God, not even by attending church. The only way to be saved is by believing in Jesus Christ and confessing Him with your mouth - Rom 10.9-10 says if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

In John 14.6  Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. In other words as Peter said in Acts 4.12 Jesus is the only way by which men can be saved  "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

God wants you to be saved, His desire is that you are saved, Not only has He made it possible for you to be saved, but He has even caused you to come to this point now where you have the opportunity to be saved, Jesus said in John 6.44  "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him

Paul in 1 Tim 2.4-6  talking about God says,   who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

If you are not yet Born Again, say this prayer right now.  Speak it so you can hear yourself talking to God, say this;

Almighty God, I come to you in the name of your beloved son Jesus.  I believe he is your son, that he died for me so that I might be saved.

I believe he rose again on the third day victorious over sin and death.

I accept his sacrifice for my sin,

I renounce all other Gods and I ask you Jesus to come into my heart,

I declare that from this moment on, you are my God, Jesus is my Lord.

God you are my father and I am your child.  Teach me your ways,  change me, correct me, protect me.  Fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to be a minister of your gospel, to share the good news with my family, my friends, and everyone I meet.

I love you Lord Jesus.    Amen

As you say this, you are confessing the Lord Jesus,  you are confessing what is in your heart, you are becoming Born Again.  The Bible says you are a new creature,  the old is passed away all things are now new.

Well, What do you do now?…

Firstly let me welcome you into our family.  The Bible tells us that the angels in heaven rejoiced when you accepted Jesus as your saviour (Luke 15.10).  What a party they must have had!

You are starting out on a wonderful journey, and the ticket has already been paid for. Let me assure you, God has great plans for you but it is up to you to see that those plans are fulfilled.

  • Find a good church where you can fellowship regularly with people who will help you and encourage you. Find a church where they actively believe God's Word, where they preach His Word, and where you feel comfortable.  Join in the activities of the church, don't just attend on Sundays, but become a fully participating member.
  • Study God's Word (the Bible) every day. Treat it as spiritual food and feed on it as you feed on natural food.  Read it, study it, and meditate on scriptures.  Find out how the scriptures apply today, how they apply to your situation.
  • Spend time each day talking to God. Thank Him, Praise Him, Tell Him your concerns, Ask Him for answers and for guidance, and take time to listen to Him.
  • Get baptised – ask your local church how and when they baptise people. Water baptism is an act whereby you declare to God,  the physical and spiritual world, your friends, church and yourself that you are totally committed now to Jesus and that He really is your Lord.
  • Don't allow the devil to get a foothold in your life. Don't listen when he tries to tell you (through a well meaning friend or through that little voice in your head) that you're a failure, you’re not!  Or that you are going to be sick, or  you made a fool of yourself, or that God doesn't love you anymore.
  • God does love you, He wants the best for you and that best includes prosperity in every area of your life, physically, mentally, socially, financially as well as spiritually.
  • If you sin, confess it to God as soon as you realise you have sinned, and He will forgive you your sin and cleanse you of all unrighteousness (1 John1.9)

WHERE DO I BEGIN ?

Begin right now by reading the Gospel of John in the Bible.  Find a version of the Bible you can understand easily and study John.  John has a wonderful understanding of who Jesus really is, and what He has given to us.  It will really encourage you. When you finish John, carry on reading the rest of the New Testament, Psalms, Proverbs, Genesis and then the rest of the Old Testament.  This will give you a great foundation.  Set yourself a goal of reading so many pages a day.  Make sure you always read some of the New Testament, this is the contract God has with the church.

Keep a book where you can write down scriptures that stand out to you or have a special meaning to you.

Remember, Satan will come and try to steal the Word that has been planted in you, he will try to steal your joy, but don't allow him.  If you feel yourself becoming discouraged, think on what happened when you first came to know God.  Think on the good things He has done for you, what He has delivered you from. Keep a note of all the blessings God has given you so you can go back and 'count your blessings'.  Keep company with people who encourage you and lift you up. Ask God to help you.

WHAT VERSION OF THE BIBLE?

There are many different versions of the Bible.  Some are written in old English, some in today’s English.  Some read like a magazine or a modern book. There are paper back ones, leather bound ones, large print, small print, ones with teaching and commentary throughout, and ones with pictures. Some are better translations than others, but all have some degree of inaccuracy due to the different meanings that can be applied in English to the original Greek or Hebrew text.

The best version you can get is the one you WILL read.  Not the one you can read, or the one that impresses others most, but the one that you will read yourself.

So don’t worry what others may say or how good the cover looks, get a Bible that you know you will read, and then read it. When you have finished reading the Bible, read it again.  Everytime you read the Bible you get more and more out of it.

WELL NOW - WHO ARE YOU?

The Bible tells us that when we are Born Again, we are a new creation in Christ Jesus, old things are passed away, and we have a new life.

(2 Cor 5:17 NKJV)  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

IN HIM, IN WHOM, IN CHRIST, IN JESUS

There are a lot of verses in the Bible which use terms like “In Him (Jesus)”, or “In whom”, or “In Christ”, or “In Jesus”.  These verses describe some of the benefits we have suddenly obtained when we became a Christian.

Here are some of the verses that tell us who we are now that we are Christians. Start confessing them now:

I am thankful, Colossians 3:15, "And let the peace of God rule in my heart, to the which also I am called in one body; and be I thankful

I am a vessel of honor, 2 Timothy 2:21, "If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work."

I am anointed by His Spirit, 1 John 2:27, "But the anointing which I have received of him abideth in me, and I need not that any man teach me: but as the same anointing teacheth me of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught me, I shall abide in him

I am made in God’s image, Genesis 1:27, "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them."

I am healed1 Peter 2:24, "Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes I was healed

I am sanctified, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, "And the very God of peace sanctify me wholly; and I pray God my whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

I am complete in Christ, Colossians 2:10, "And I am complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power."

I am raised up and sitting in heavenly places Ephesians 2:6, " And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus."

I am a new creation, 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

I am risen, Colossians 2:12, "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also I am risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."

I am successful, Joshua 1:8, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success

I am Loved, I receive the love of God. There is nothing that can separate me from the love of my God. For it says in Romans 8:38-39,”For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I am more than a conqueror Rom 8.37 "Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us”

I am loving, Romans 5:5, "And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us."

I am kind, Romans 12:10, "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another."

I am gentle, Galatians 5:22, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith."

I am meek, Galatians 5:23, "Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

I am fearless, 1 John 4:18, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love

I have favour, Prov 3 “My son, do not forget my law,  But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life  And peace they will add to you.   Let not mercy and truth forsake you;  Bind them around your neck,  Write them on the tablet of your heart,  And so find favor and high esteem  In the sight of God and man.."

I am wealthy, Deuteronomy 8:18, "But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day

I am Holy Spirit controlled, Ephesians 5:18, "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit."

I am Holy Spirit led, Romans 8:14, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."

I am a giver, 2 Corinthians 9:7, "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

I am a receiver, Mark 11:24, "Therefore I say unto you, What things soever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them."

I shall reap in joy  Psalms 126:5, "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."The bible also says that the joy of the Lord is your strength.

I am chosen, 1 Peter 2:9, "But I am a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that I should shew forth the praises of him who hath called me out of darkness into his marvellous light."

I am delivered, Colossians 1:13, "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son

I am the head, not the tail, I am above only, not beneath, Deuteronomy 28:13, "And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath."

I am worthy, 2 Corinthians 5:21, "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."

I am righteous, 1 Corinthians 1:30, "But of him are I in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption," and Romans 5:17, "For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ."

I am clean, John 15:3, "Now I am clean through the word which I have spoken unto me." Acts 10:15, "And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common."

I am powerful, Ephesians 3:20, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us."

I am wise 1 Corinthians 1:30, "But of Him are I in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption."

I am a prayer person, Ephesians 6:18, "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

I can achieve much more than I think - Ephesians 3:20, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,"

I am saved, Romans 10:9, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved

I am sound minded, 2 Timothy 1:7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

I am liberated, Galatians 5:1, "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage

I am blessed, Psalms 115:15, "I am blessed of the Lord which made heaven and earth."

Deuteronomy 28:3-6, "Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out."

I am confident, 1 John 5:14, "And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.

I am eternal, John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not die, but have everlasting life

I am special, Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

I have overcome 1 John 4:4, "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world."

I am free, Romans 8:2, "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

(Mark 8:36) Because my soul is delivered from the power of darkness, I am free in Christ.

I believe all things are possible for me, Mark 9:23, "Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth."

We are not justified by what we do, but by faith in Christ Jesus  Gal 2:16 (NKJV) says  "knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ ….”.

3.              GOD WANTS YOU WELL

Some people may tell you that God has made them (or you) sick.  The church for many years has also tried to tell us that we are meant to be poor.  Others will tell you that it is not right to be successful.  Well, don’t you believe them!

If God really is our father, then I am sure he does not want any of these things for His children anymore than I do for my sons and daughter.

Why would He heal if He wants us sick?  Why would He tell us we can receive a hundred fold return if He wants us poor? Why would He tell us to seek wisdom if He wants us to be unsuccessful?

The truth is that God’s secrets of how to be healthy, how to be prosperous, how to be successful are all contained in the Bible.

Jesus said He came to give us life and life more abundantly.  Sure,  He does not want us to make health, money or success our gods, but He does want us to trust Him for our healing, our provision, and our success.  The Bible says ‘if we commit our plans to the Lord we will have success’.  So we need to make Jesus Lord over our health, Lord over our finances, Lord over our work, Lord over our marriages and relationships, and Lord of every area over our lives.  Don’t lock Him out but welcome Him in.

This book is especially designed to try to encourage you about healing, so that you will know it is God’s will that you be healed and so that you don’t have to suffer anymore.  In it you will find there are many different ways God heals.

There are many ways that God heals.  In all different ways God heals, there is a common thread (faith).  The intention is to demonstrate that when you use your faith God will find a way to heal you – but it may not be how you expect He won’t necessarily use the same method every time.

The principles you learn in this book about healing, you can also apply to any other area of need – finances, work, relationships, fear, home etc.

At the time of writing, I have to admit that I myself had been ill for some time.  Despite many people praying for me, I had not experienced a miraculous instantaneous healing. To tell you the truth there have been many times when I felt a hypocrite because of this.  However, during this time I have received therapy that has helped me to identify the many issues in my life I had kept hidden, not dealt with and hoped would just go away of their own accord.  The therapy has also helped me to deal with some of these issues, given me tools to change my ways, and trained me to become a better more whole person.  I am sure God is behind all this and that now I will be able to help and understand others who have experienced this type of illness.

I have also learned a lot from my family, friends, pastors, the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and my doctors who have been such a tremendous help to me.  For the first time in my life I have opened up and talked about my hopes and dreams, my problems and faults.  They have been there to help me get through this and set me on the path to fulfilling my hopes and dreams which I believe to be God’s calling for me.

It’s a bit like the Israelites taking over the promised land.  The land was real, God’s promise that He would give them the land was real, they had faith in God, God had proved His power to them many times, but they still had to go in and fight to take the promised land.

So it is sometimes with illness, we know God’s promise for healing, we believe we have the faith, He has often proved His power to us before but sometimes it becomes a real battle and we have to fight hard to win.  Sometimes (often, it seems) we may lose that battle and yet you know we win the war.  Paul says ‘to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord’,  so even if we do die, we go to a much better place.

Many of His servants have suffered and died painful deaths, martyrs to the cause of God because we do live in a fallen world, we are surrounded by sin and the forces of evil, we have often allowed those evil forces to gain a foothold in our own lives.  Even Christ had to suffer and die on the cross.  And yet the Bible also tells us that there are more spiritual forces on our side than there are against us.  The end of the book tells us how we win the war in the end.  We will be victorious no matter how bad things look now.

I can only hope and pray that this book will help you win more battles here on earth so that you can have a better life, a testimony to encourage others, and the evidence of God’s unconditional love.  As I said before, the end result of my illness is that I know God better, I have a testimony to share, I can write this book to encourage you, and I came through this a better and more capable person.

As I have said, God’s secrets of how to be healthy, how to be prosperous, how to be successful are all contained in the Bible.

GOD WANTS YOU WELL SOCIALLY

God wants us to be well.  This is especially important as we need one another to help and support us through prayer, good counsel, comfort, physical and even financial help etc.  God tells us to share one another’s burdens and that we are to mourn with those who are mourning and rejoice with those who rejoice.

Right from the beginning of time when God created the earth and mankind, He declared that it was not right that man should be alone, so he created other animals and a woman to help the man.

Gen 2:18  And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.

He didn’t just create one woman for one man, but he created a self propagating species where there would be many men and many women.  So today we all need each other.  None of us is perfect, none of us has all the talents and gifts, but between us we do.

When Jesus walked the earth, he built up a team of friends.  He had his many followers, his twelve disciples, and then there were three really close disciples he chose.

The church is the same, we all need each other. We need to be involved in different size groups, with some people we just know, others we know well, and a few whom we really know well and can trust our innermost secrets to.

We are to work together in the same way our own bodies work together;

1Co 12:14  For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. Specifically for the church we are to love one another and help one another.

Helping those brethren in need.

Don't forget when you help meet the needs of other people you are meeting the needs of Christ.

Bear one another’s burdens.

If someone is going through a hard time help them, take away some of the burden, don't leave it up to them. Don’t just say 'stand on the word' and leave them to it.

Gal 6:2  Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Rom 12.11  …..;  distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.

When something good happens to a brother lets rejoice with them - don't be jealous or try to put them down.

Rom 12.14   Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

When things go wrong for them it should be as if the same has gone wrong for us. We should mourn with those who mourn.

Consider this, do we mourn when famous TV evangelists are caught out in sin or do we rejoice because we don’t like their style?  - Apart from the evangelists themselves, a lot of our brothers and sisters in Christ were hurt because of what happened.  Many would have left the church – their faith destroyed.

If someone sins, don’t immediately reject them or turn your back on them, but try to restore them.

Gal 6:1  Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.

There is a process to excommunicate someone who continually sins and refuses church counsel, but it is not the first step. Rather it is the final step we take very cautiously after we have made every attempt to help reconcile them.

Eph 4 32  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

A society that is well is a society where we all help each other, support one another and encourage one another.

We are to serve one another.

No matter what our position in the world or in the church. If there is a need you can fulfill, fill it.

Gal 5.13  … but through love serve one another.

We are not to judge one another.

Rom 14.13  Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother's way.

Be kind to one another and FORGIVE them.

James 1.32  And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.

Have peace with each other.

This takes a decision - it doesn't just happen

Mark 9.50  ”…. and have peace with one another."

Don't speak evil of one another.

James 4.11  Do not speak evil of one another, brethren.

Remember that there is an accuser of the brethren and his name is Satan.  It should not be our name.

Don't lie to each other

Col 3.9  Do not lie to one another…

Be hospitable and minister using the gifts you have been given (the gifts of the spirit are for the church not yourself)

1 Peter 4.9  Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.  As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Consider your own faults - we are not all perfect.

Luke 6.39  Don’t be a hippocrite - looking for speck in your brothers eye when you have a plank in your own

Pray for each other

There are many examples in the New Testament of how Jesus prayed for us (John 17) or Paul prayed for us (Eph 1.16) or where we are told to pray for those among us who are sick (James5)

Pray for the sick among you

James 5.14  Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Do you trust your brother enough to confess your sins to them.

Can anyone trust you not to spill the beans ? For me this is a very difficult question to answer.  Whilst I always try to be discreet with other peoples shortcomings.  I find it difficult to find someone whom I feel I can trust mine to, other than God.  We need to be able to trust each other.

James 5.16  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Give

The church in Corinth despite the fact that they did not have much, gave generously to help their brothers in Judea  and many of them gave more than they could afford.

2 Cor 8 ….. their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality.  For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing,  imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

These are just a few examples of how we can show love for our brethren and how we can lay down our life for the brethren.  The church in the book of Acts (which we all try to emulate) sold everything they had and pooled their resources to help each other.  Many of them did lay down their lives, and many others lived in fear of being tortured and killed for their faith.  If we really believed the gospel as they obviously did, surely it is worth all we have (whether it be money, property, time etc) in order fulfill the great commission to preach the gospel to the whole world.

When Peter tried to walk on the water, after a few steps, he took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink calling to Jesus for help.  The Bible tells us that Jesus held his hand out to get Peter up again before he preached to him about faith.  How often do we miss that first step and just leave it at telling our brothers who get in trouble what they are doing wrong without first giving them a hand out?

Matt 14.29  So He said, "Come." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me!"  And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

Safety and Protection

God is also interested in our safety.  Even though bad things do happen to Christians, we can always go to God and ask for His protection.. Psalm 91 shows us how we can rely on God to protect us.  Meditate on this psalm and use it to help yourself when in times of trouble.

Psalm 91.1               He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.  Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.  With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

GOD WANTS YOU WELL FINANCIALLY

Not only does God want us to be well,  He wants us to be well financially.  In fact He wants to meet all our needs and for us to prosper and be successful in every area of our life.

Prosperity is not just about being rich.  It is more to do with having your needs met (lacking no good thing), being successful in whatever you put your hands to,  and having enough to be able to give to the work of the gospel and  helping others in need.

We own nothing - we can not take it with us when we die but we can build up a store in Heaven by what we do with our time and our things here on earth.

One of the Hebrew names for God is Jehovah Jireh which means The Lord is our Provider

Gen 22. 14  And Abraham called the name of the place, The-LORD-Will-Provide;

Psalm  23:1  The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

God’s Will that we be successful & prosper when we are obedient and honor Him first.

Joshua 1. 8  "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

When God entered into a relationship with the Hebrews, He promised blessings, that they would prosper if they followed His ways, but there is a warning that if they didn’t then the opposite would come to pass;

(Deu 28:1 NKJV)  "Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God:

  • Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
  • Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.
  • Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl.
  • Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.
  • The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways.
  • The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you
  • The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.
  • Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you.
  • And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you
  • The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
  • And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.

God meets our Needs

Paul said (Phil 4:19 NKJV)  And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

We are to meet Others Needs

Matt 25.34  "Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:  'for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;   'I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'   "Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?   'When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?   'Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'   "And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'

(Luke 6:38 NKJV)  "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

For Success in your work

We don’t just need money, we also need help to be successful in our community, in our church and in our work.

The Living Bible says (Ps 16.3) “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

The reason God wants us to prosper is so that He can use us to bless others.  If we don’t have the resources they need to be blessed with, then God can’t use us in that to bless them.

2 Cor 9:8 NKJV)  And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work

A good example of this was described in Jan Somers book ‘Building Wealth Story by Story’ published  by Somerset Financial Services Ltd (www.somersoft.com.au).  In this book she tells a story of a Christian couple who owned a successful business specializing in building ‘spec’ homes. They also owned a number of investment properties. They were faithful tithers and over a period of 20 years gave generously to their church’s youth support program, aged care facilities and family crisis centre.

When the husband turned  40, he had a bit of a mid life crisis spurred on by taunts from his friends that capitalism and Christianity did not sit well together.  He decided to leave his mark on the world by selling the business and their assets to build a new church.  What a wonderful generous Christian gesture you may think. Yes, it certainly seemed that way when they were able to donate over $2million plus their time and expertise towards building the new church.  Of course, their friends taunts soon turned to praise when they realized how generous they had been.

However, the couple’s income dropped from over $200,000 per year to less than $20,000 which resulted in a commensurate drop in their tithe and giving ability. Within 2 years the aged care facility and family crisis centre closed down while the youth support programs were seriously curtailed.  Now the praise and thanks they received for their donation turned to cries of anguish and even criticism.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Do not be discouraged by people’s criticism of your wealth and success.
  • People will criticize you whatever you do.
  • You can give more by using your talents and resources wisely than by giving them away.
  • The work of the church is more important than the building.
  • The church needs successful business people who can give over a long period of time.

I am pleased to report that the couple in our story later realized what had happened and decided to resurrect their business and start investing in property again.  They also decided to tithe 20% instead of 10%.  Just one year later they had seven investment properties.

How to be Well financially;

  1. Tithe
  2. Give generously
  3. Seek wisdom
  4. Seek Godly counsellors
  5. Commit your ways to the Lord.
  6. Work hard at what you are good at.

TITHING

Tithing is making God Lord over your finances.  It demonstrates your faith that God is your provider.

Mal 3. 8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts,

In this scripture goes on to say we are to prove Him (or test Him) and prove that He will provide the following 7 benefits;

  1. God will “open you the windows of heaven, “
  2. God will “pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”
  3. God will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,
  4. Your crops won’t fail - “and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground;”
  5. You will be fruitfull - “neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field.”
  6. All nations shall call you blessed:
  7. You shall be a delightsome land

GIVING

The key to financial prosperity is giving.  When you give to the poor you are lending to God.

Matt 19. 21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Mark 9. 41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

Luke 6. 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Psalm 41 1-3 says those who give to the poor will be blessed, delivered from troubles, protected, kept alive, and healed

Psa 41:1  You, LORD God, bless everyone who cares for the poor, and you rescue those people in times of trouble. You protect them and keep them alive. You make them happy here in this land, and you don't hand them over to their enemies. You always heal them and restore their strength when they are sick.

Seek wisdom

Pro 2:1- 6  My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;  So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;  Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;  If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;  Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

Seek Godly counsel

Pro 11:14  Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

In other words you can’t do it on your own, so get yourself a team of advisors who are experienced and have evidence to prove their abilities. Find yourself wise counselors not foolish ones.  Get the best accountant, lawyer, financial planner, broker that you can afford.  Talk to successful people at your church, attend business motivation seminars and read the books written by those who are top in their field.

Most of the books I have read on financial success quote Robert Kiyosaki, - well there’s a hint, if everyone else is quoting him, maybe we should read his books if we want to be successful in that area.  Similarly, we should go to the the real source of knowledge relating to our world and our life here on the earth to find our answers and the best way to behave.

If you spoke to the most successful investors and business people of today, you will find one thing they have in common is that they all have a team of the best people they can find to advise them.

Commit your ways to the Lord

Pro 3:6  “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Pro 16:3  “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. “

The Living Bible interprets these verses;

Prov 3.6 “In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and crown your efforts with success.”

Prove 16.3 “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.”

FAITH

Everything we have studied so far comes down to one thing.  In order to get what we need, we must have faith in God.  The Bible tells us we must believe that God is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

FAITH IS A DOING WORD

Although the word is a noun, you demonstrate  your faith by acting as if what you believe is true.

(James 2:18 NKJV)  But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.

(James 2:20 NKJV)  But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

(James 2:26 NKJV)  For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

FAITH IS NOW

(Heb 11:1 NKJVNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is not about wishing something may happen in the future, it is for right now. Mark 11.22-24 says we are to believe that we receive the answer to our prayer them moment we pray, not when we see it, but right now!

Mark 11.22-24  “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours…

If we find it difficult to believe we have receieved  the moment we pray then we need to get back to the scriptures and to other stories of how God answers prayers today, to build our faith up, then when we can believe, that’s when we pray.

FAITH IS TRUSTING GOD AND ACTING AS IF YOU REALLY DO TRUST HIM.

To receive from God you need Faith, Hope and Love.

(Heb 11:1 NKJV)  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

How to use your faith according to Mark 11

Mark 11 says

Which means

Have faith in God

Trust God

Speak to the mountain or problem in your life

Speak to the sickness

Believe what you say

Believe in your heart – this is not mind over matter

Do not doubt

Ignore those negative thoughts – focus on what God says about healing.  Study healing scriptures until you do believe them.

Believe you have received

When you pray believe you have received your healing

And it will be yours

This is the promise it will be yours.

Forgive

Unforgiveness and your own sin can be an obstacle.

Speak constructively – don’t destroy your faith.

If you don’t believe you are healed then keep quiet.  Say nothing.  Don’t speak about it until you have built your faith up enough so you can honestly say you believe you have been healed.

FAITH IS THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN

You can not see healing – only the disease or injury.

You can not feel healing – only the disease or injury.

But the moment you pray in faith you receive your healing and over a period of time your body must come into line. Sometimes your body takes time to change.

Similarly you might be seeing the pile of bills, the rejection letters for jobs, friends rejecting you etc. You may be feeling hurt and discouraged.  Let your spirit be encouraged by the Word of God and as your faith grows pray to overcome that issue.

FAITH IS TRUSTING GOD

Mark 11.22 tells us to have Faith in God.  The literal translation says 'Have faith God'. Which some translate 'Have the God kind of Faith' but which most translations interpret to be 'Have faith in God'.  The Old testament says we are to “Trust in God.”

The new testament says we are to believe in God and believe that He is a rewarder.

Heb 11. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

But if we don't believe in God then we are already condemned by our unbelief

John 3.18  "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

If we base our faith on the Word of God, we will have the assurance that it will come to pass.  The Bible tells us that God is not a man that He should lie (Num 23.19), and that in Christ all the promises of God are yes and amen (2 Cor 1.20).

David TRUSTED God;

There are many scriptures that show how God’s servants trusted God. Here are some of the many scriptures that describe how King David trusted God.

(Psa 16:1 NKJV)  Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.

(Psa 18:2 NKJV)  The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

(Psa 20:7 NKJV)  Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

(Psa 25:2 NKJV)  O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me.

(Psa 31:14 NKJV)  But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."

(Psa 52:8 NKJV)  But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.

(Psa 56:11 NKJV)  In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

(Psa 62:8 NKJV)  Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

(Psa 71:5 NKJV)  For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth.

(Psa 73:28 NKJV)  But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, That I may declare all Your works.

We have reason to Trust God

(Prov 30:5 NKJV)  Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.

Is 55.11   So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

2 Cor 1.20  For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of  God through us.

John 14.13  "And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14  "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

John 16.23  "And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24  "Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Matt 18.19  "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.

We need to TRUST God that He will do what He says He will.

HOPE

Hope is an extremely important factor in faith. Without hope you can't  have faith.

(Heb 11:1 NKJVNow faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The word hope means more than just a wish, it is an expected anticipation. If your hope is just a wish it won’t come to pass.  But at least it is a starting point. Focus on that wish, build your faith by reading and meditating on what the Bible says about the issue.  There are many good verses in this book you may find helpful, or you can purchase books such as Scipture Keys which list scriptures under various topics. Better still, find your own ones in the Bible.  Ask God to show you what verses you need.

The Bible tells us that faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. So study what the Bible says on the matter, speak it out. Speak it to yourself. Speak it out over and over until you build your hope strong enough for you to give substance to it by acting as if it were true.

Plow in hope

1 Cor.9. For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

1 Thes 1. 3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

LOVE

Love is another essential factor in faith.  For without love even if we have the faith to move mountains, we are just a clanging noise.

1 Cor 13. is known as the Love Chapter and is often quoted at weddings. It says (NKJV) Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.

And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

This is the God kind of love.  In Greek there are 4 different words used that we interpret as the one word ‘love’.

  1. Eros from which we get the word erotic, is the sensual kind of love.
  2. Storge is the kind of love we have as a family. The sort of love between parent and child.
  3. Phileo is the responsive sort of love, you love me therefore I love you. From this word we get words like philosophy, (lover of wisdom).
  4. Agape is the God kind of love, which says I love you no matter what you have done, and I wont stop loving you no matter what you are going to do. We do not deserve this love, there is nothing we can do that would make us more loved.

When Jesus asked Peter ‘Do you love me?”he said ‘Do you agape me’ but Peters response was ‘I do phileo you.

WHAT IS GOD’S WILL CONCERNING HEALING?

If we are to believe God for healing (or anything else we need) we need to know it is God’s will.

I freely admit that people don’t always receive their healing and often I can not explain why.  It may appear that they say and do all the right things but they still don’t receive. If God heals then maybe there is a blockage between God and us that prevents us from receiving,

It’s a bit like television.  The TV station advertises their program, on the TV and in the TV guide that arrives with your daily paper, and at the scheduled time the program goes to air.  A lot of people watched it and afterwards they tell you how good it was but maybe you didn’t get to see it.  Why?  Perhaps you  weren’t home at the scheduled time, perhaps, you had to work late, perhaps you chose to watch another channel at that time, perhaps friends came over,  perhaps you are not interested in that type of program, perhaps you misread the time in the TV guide or perhaps you never knew it was going to be on.  Maybe you were expecting the program to be on an hour earlier and got fed up with waiting.  Maybe there was a storm that day and the reception on that channel was bad, or perhaps the power went out.  Whatever the reason (and there are many, many more), you never got to  watch the program.  Does that mean the program was never broadcast? No of course it doesn’t – in fact you know it was on because others who saw it told you about it.   It just means you didn’t get to watch it.

Receiving from God is the same,  God still broadcasts His healing power but often we just don’t receive it for very similar reasons.  The truth is that God wants us to be healed.

HE IS THE LORD OUR HEALER

One of the names of God is Jehovah Rapha – He is The Lord our Healer.

Exodus 15.26 says “I am the Lord who heals you’

Exodus 23.25 says “….serve the Lord your God and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you”

Ps 34.2 says “O Lord my God, I called to you for help and you healed me”

The Bible says in Ps 107. 20-22  “He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!  Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And declare His works with rejoicing.”

Ps 103 says 'Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.          Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Not just some diseases, but ALL.  He also forgives you of sin – not just some but ALL.  It is a package deal, God heals ALL our diseases and forgives ALL our sins.

BY GOD’S WILL, JESUS WAS SENT TO HEAL US.

1 John 3.8 “For this purpose was the Son of God manifest, that He might destroy the works of the devil

The devil is the one who brings sickness and disease. The Bible tells us he comes  to rob, kill and destroy.  In other words, the devil will try to rob you of your health, joy, family, friends, safety. He will try to kill you and what you have done, and to destroy your family and your work.

BUT JESUS TOOK OUR SICKNESSES AND NAILED THEM TO THE CROSS

Isaiah 53.4 “Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered Him stricken by God, smitten by Him, and afflicted.  But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities, the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.”

Matthew 8.16b-17 “And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,  that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore our sicknesses."

When praying for healing for myself or family, I often think of this scripture.  How after He was arrested, Jesus was beaten – whipped.  I am told the whip would have had many strands with sharp stones attached so that when the whip was pulled away they would rip the skin.  I hear the thwack of the whip and see the wounds and the blood in my mind as the whip is pulled away and I tell myself – that is my healing.  If you have seen Mel Gibson’s movie ‘The Passion of Christ’ you will be aware of some of the suffering He went through and the amount of blood that he spilled for our healing.

I Peter 2.24 “ Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we having died to sin, might live for righteousness, by whose stripes you were healed.”

Acts 10.38 “How God annointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

HEALING IS THE EVIDENCE OF MESSIAH

John the Baptist sent his own disciples to Jesus to ask him if he really is the Messiah. When Jesus was asked if He was the Messiah, the evidence He gave was mainly to do with healing…

Luke 7. 22, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard:

  • that the blind see,
  • the lame walk,
  • the lepers are cleansed,
  • the deaf hear,
  • the dead are raised,
  • the poor have the gospel preached to them.

5 out of the 6 things Jesus gave as evidence of His Messiahship were to do with healing.  If that is the evidence that Jesus was the Messiah,  what do you think the evidence should be that we are His followers?

GOD WANTS YOU WELL MENTALLY

  • Renew your mind.

This is up to us.  Transform yourself by renewing your mind as you study and meditate the Word of God.

Rom 12 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

  • God Restores our souls.

Ps 23. 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.….He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Our soul is that part of our being that includes the mind and our will.  We are a tri-part being, Spirit, Soul and Body.  Our Spirit is born anew when we make Jesus Lord of our lives, our soul is renewed by meditating on His word, and our body will be renewed when Jesus returns. We are spirit, we have a soul and we live in a body.

The Bible also says that we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. That is how we should consider ourselves and ensure that we care for ourselves as if it were a brick and mortar built temple.

WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT HEALED.

As I have already stated, a lot of people are not healed.  There could be many reasons for it, but a common reason is simply because they do not know it is God’s will.  It is important to sow the seed concerning healing so that people will know it is God’s will.  The Bible says “my people perish for lack of knowledge” Hosea 4.6

Sometimes it is because they did not wait – they gave up before the race ended.    We often give up just before we see the manifestation of God’s gift.  Daniel 10.12 Then he said to me, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia. Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come.”

  • One of the words used in the New Testament for healing is from the same Greek word we get the word ‘therapy’ from. This implies that healing may not always be instantaneous but may take a while undergoing therapy to address the real issues behind your sickness.

  • Sometimes it is because they’ve been taught it’s not Gods Will to heal –Sadly, they may have been taught it’s God’s will they are sick. Very often the church they attend actually teaches that God has made them sick.  Either that church has a very wrong picture of God, or they just find it easier to make an excuse why someone has not been healed than to teach them to receive their healing.

  • Sometimes it is because they chose not to get healed – perhaps they don’t want to be healed. I have to confess here that there have been times when I have purposely not claimed my healing because I would rather have a bit of time off work! Or perhaps some sympathy or just can’t be bothered.

  • Sometimes it is because they are double minded – not sure what they want. James 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

  • Sometimes it is because Satan stole their healing. Once the word of healing has been sown, Satan comes in and tries to steal that word, casting doubt.  Luke 8 then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe”. This is why it is so important to prepare the soil well before sowing seed.  It may take many weeks to prepare the soil by removing the rock and thistles and teaching about the character of God.

  • Sometimes it is because they have an Unbridled Tongue. This is what you often hear when people are talking about their sickness,  Talking it up to make it sound a grand achievement.  “The doctor said this is the worst case of…,   rare disease - only one in a million….., “.  James 1. 26 If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

  • Sometimes it is because people just don’t know how to receive from God. Has anyone ever taught you how to receive from God?   We can understand how to receive from someone we can see, but how do we receive intangible things from someone we can’t see?  Well, it’s the same.  Know God wants to give it to us, Believe He is giving it to us,  Reach out and take it. Then thank God for it and act as if you have it.

  • In today's society it is too easy to listen to what the world says, to the bad reports of war, disease, famine, earthquakes and cyclones etc. instead of what God says - the Good News of the Gospel. That’s what the word gospel means - ‘good news’
  • The good news is not that we are condemned to Hell but that we can be saved by the simple process of believing and confessing Jesus as Lord.

  • Sometimes, the news about God’s healing is not sown into fertile ground Luke 8. 11 “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

We can help here by preparing the soil before sowing the word.   We used to have a small property on which about one third was rocks and one third was weeds that had wooded.  Before we could sow seeds that we would be able to harvest later, we had to remove the rocks and weeds.

WE NEED FAITH;

We are Healed by Faith

The Bible tells us that we are to live by Faith.  It also says we must believe God is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

We please God by faith

The Bible also tells us that ;

  • We receive from God by Faith
  • God has given us the measure of Faith,
  • Faith is the substance of things Hoped for
  • Faith is the evidence of things not seen.
  • Faith comes by hearing and hearing (meditating on) the word of God.

How we apply faith in the area of healing.

As faith is the substance of things hoped for, we need to build our Hope in the area of Healing.  Studying books on healing and meditating on what the Bible says about healing will help you build that hope.  Then when you give substance to that hope by acting as if it were true, faith develops.

God HEALS

I am absolutely 100% convinced that God Heals, He healed yesterday, He heals today, and He will heal tomorrow.

  • Heb 13.8 NKJV says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever”

He wants us to be well, healthy, whole, and successful in every area of our lives.

God is our Father and like any father He wants the best for us.

The issue is not whether God heals but how do we receive our healing.

Healing is so easy for God, Jesus still managed to heal the sick even in a place where there was no faith for anything else. - Mark 6. 5  Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.

Continue studying this book and you will find out that He still heals today!

4.              WELL, THERE’S DIFFERENT WAYS GOD HEALS

God is so determined to get people healed, that he has devised many different ways for people to be healed

HOW GOD HEALED PEOPLE IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

Here are some examples of how God healed in the Old Testament –

Elisha healed a boy by giving him Holy Spirit inspired mouth to mouth resuscitation. laying on top of him, and putting his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands;

2 Kings 4. 32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed. 33He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the LORD. And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and he stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm. Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.

Naaman healed by dipping in the river,

2 Kings 5.9,So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. 10And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean.

He sent His word and healed them

Ps 107. 20                He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

Watch that Snake…..

Numbers 21. Then the LORD said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

Blessing Food

Ex 23.25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfill.

Hear God and Obey

Ex 15. 26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

By prayer and tears

2 Kings 20.5 Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the LORD.

He restores our health and heals our wounds

Jeremiah 30.17 For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD;

He takes sickness away

Deut 7. 14 Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle. And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

He brings health and cures

Jeremiah 33. 6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth.

Fear the Lord and depart from evil

Prov 3. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Attend to Gods words and listen to His sayings

Prov 4. 20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

By Pleasant words

Prov 16. 24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Because you look after the poor

Psa 41:1 (CEV)

You, LORD God, bless everyone who cares for the poor, and you rescue those people in times of trouble. You protect them and keep them alive. You make them happy here in this land, and you don't hand them over to their enemies. You always heal them and restore their strength when they are sick.

With healing in His wings

Malachi 4.2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings;

HOW GOD HEALED THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF JESUS

When Jesus was here on earth, he was known for his healing ministry.  Many people travelled searching for him so they could be healed of various diseases.  Here are some of the ways that he healed them;

  • Laying on of hands
  • Through the persons own faith
  • Through the faith of their mother
  • Through the faith of their father
  • Through the faith of their boss
  • Through the faith of their friends
  • By speaking to the disease
  • By casting out.
  • By people just touching him.
  • By spitting;
  • By sticking His fingers in the ears, spitting and touching the tongue
  • Spitting in the eye
  • By putting mud and spit balls on their eyes
  • He healed on the Sabbath and every other day of the week.
  • He had big healing services.
  • He conducted small private healing sessions.
  • Even when he could do no other sign because of unbelief, He still healed people.
  • By showing them it was God’s will for them to be healed.
  • By giving them Therapy

Here’s mud in your eye

John 9.6 When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

On the Sabbath

Matt 12. 9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue: And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Annointing with clay

John 9. 11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

Casting out demons

Luke 8. 26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.

Forgiving sin

Mark 2. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God only? And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

Loosing;

Luke 13. 10 And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

Get up and walk

Acts 3. 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

Touching the hem of His clothes

Mark 6. 56 And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

Your faith has made you well

Luke 18. 35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

By Following Jesus

Luke 9. 11 And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing.

Raising from the dead -

Jesus raised Lazarus after he had died and was buried.  That’s pretty good healing!  The key was that they had to obey Jesus by rolling away the stone which would make them look foolish and allow the stink to come out letting everyone know of their foolish act of faith.  But they obeyed Christ and not only did Jesus raise Lazarus from the dead, but He healed him of the sickness that caused him to die in the first place – otherwise Lazarus would just die again!

John 11. 39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead were laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Through the Boss (Centurion’s servant)

Matt 8. 5 And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. 8The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. and I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

Through mum’s determination

Mat 15:22  Suddenly a Canaanite woman from there came out shouting, "Lord and Son of David, have pity on me! My daughter is full of demons." Jesus did not say a word. But the woman kept following along and shouting, so his disciples came up and asked him to send her away. Jesus said, "I was sent only to the people of Israel! They are like a flock of lost sheep." The woman came closer. Then she knelt down and begged, "Please help me, Lord!" Jesus replied, "It isn't right to take food away from children and feed it to dogs." "Lord, that's true," the woman said, "but even dogs get the crumbs that fall from their owner's table." Jesus answered, "Dear woman, you really do have a lot of faith, and you will be given what you want." At that moment her daughter was healed.

Don’t be afraid - Only Believe

Mark 5. 35 While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further? As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Take by the hand

Matt 9. 23 And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise, He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose. And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land.

Touching Eyes

Matt 9. 27 And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou Son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened;

Casting out Demons

Matt 9. 32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marvelled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

He Took our Infirmities & bore our Sicknesses

Matt 8. 16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Stretch out your hand.

Matt 12. 13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.  This is really asking the sick person to demonstrate his faith by doing something the sickness prevented him from doing.

Mass Healing Crusade

Matt 15. 29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Lifting Up Mothers in Law

Mark 1. 29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.

Know that He is willing to heal you

Mark 1. 40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.

By Touching Jesus

Mark 3. 10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues.

Sticks his fingers in the ears, spits, and touches the tongue

This one sounds a bit of a joke but it is true;

Mark 7. 31

And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis. And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

Go for a walk with Jesus and He’ll spit in your eye

Mark 8. 22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him. And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought. And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking. After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.

After sunset

Luke 4. 40 Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

As you go to the priest

Luke 17. 14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go show yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

Go show yourself to the priest.  In today's world when you believe God has healed you, you should go to your doctor, tell him that you have been healed, get him to confirm it and advise you regarding your medication.  Some medication can be dangerous to suddenly cut out and needs to follow a controlled reduction plan.

Go your way

John 4. 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

Rise up, take up your bed and walk

John 5. 8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the Sabbath.

By Teaching and Preaching and Healing

Matt 4. 23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

Jesus takes and heals  Luke 14.4

Luke 14. 4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

Jesus gives Therapy

One of the Greek words that describes Jesus healing people is ‘therapeuo’ which is the same word that we today get the word therapy’’ from.

Strongs says G2323  θεραπεύω  therapeuo  ther-ap-yoo'-o

From the same as G2324; to wait upon menially, that is, (figuratively) to adore (God), or (specifically) to relieve (of disease): - cure, heal, worship.

This may help explain why sometimes healing isn’t instant but occurs over a period of time, maybe years.

I have experienced this in my own life.  For the past 18 months I have been undertaking various courses of therapy. I still believe God heals instantly and miraculously, but for some problems,He also heals over a period of time.  He alone knows what you really need and He heals you and makes you whole. In my case, I had some issues I needed to deal and I needed help to identify and deal with them. I certainly feel as if my issues would never have been dealt with if I hadn’t gone through all this time of therapy.

HEALING IN THE EARLY CHURCH

People stood in the shadows of His disciples to receive healing

People were healed through handkerchiefs that Paul had prayed over.

Acts Peter & John healing the sick.

Acts 3:1  Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple;

who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.

And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, "Look at us."

So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.

Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."

And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them; walking, leaping, and praising God.

And all the people saw him walking and praising God.

Paul Healed people by Laying hands on the sick.

Acts 28. 8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

The News Of Publius’ Healing Started A Healing Crusade..

Acts 28.9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed:

In the shadows of His disciples

Acts 6. 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Get up and make your bed

Acts 9.32 32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. 33And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. 34And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. 35And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

Embracing

Acts 20. 9 And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead. 10And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. 11When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 12And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.

Paul’s Handkerchiefs

Acts 19. 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

He gave His disciples power to cure diseases and heal the sick

Luke 9. 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.  And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

He told the seventy disciples to heal the sick  (Luke 10.9)

Luke 10. 1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.  Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.  Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.  And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.

HEALING IN THE DAYS AFTER THE DISCIPLES

  • In AD 200 Irenaeus wrote ‘ Those who are in the truth His disciples, receiving grace from Him, do in His name perform miracles and they do truly cast out devils. Others still heal by laying their hands upon them
  • In Ad 429 Theodore of Mopsueste wrote “Many heathen amongst us are being healed by Christians from whatever sickness they have – so abundant are miracles in our midst”
  • In 13/14th Century St Peregrine of Laszio was healed of cancer of the foot overnight.
  • In 1730 Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf wrote “we have had undeniable proofs thereof in the unequivocal discovery of things, persons, and circumstances, which could not humanly have been discovered, in the healing of maladies in themselves incurable, such as cancers, consumptions, when the patient was in the agonies of death, all by means of prayer, or of a single word.”
  • In the past couple of centuries people have witnessed the miraculous healing power of God through some of the great healing evangelists of people like Amie Semple McPherson, Smith Wigglesworth and Kathryn Kuhlman. In the 20th Century a few of the great healing ministries included;

Smith Wigglesworth is reported to have raised people from the dead, initiated many healings and even caused amputated limbs to regrow.

Kathryn Khulman had one of the greatest healing ministries of our time.  Thousands were healed and saved through her crusades.   People were even healed on their way to her meetings.

Norvel Hayes  In his booklet ‘The Gifts of Healing’ (Harrison House 1960) Norvel tells of a man aged 26 who was a midget - only 4’9” who grew to 6’1” in 10 months after an accident by believing and confessing Gods word on healing.  The man grew so fast he had to buy new trousers every month.

Norvel also tells of a time when he preached in a Lutheran church in New York and invited people forward for healing.  One man about 22-23 years old came up on crutches and as he lifted his hands to God, his crutches fell and he was healed.  The man turned and walked back up the aisle.   As he passed a blind boy, his eyes popped open.

Benny Hinn who is regularly seen on television has many testimonies of how God worked miracles through his ministry to heal and set people free. Whilst many may not like TV evangelists, the proof of their ministry is always by their fruit (ie are those being healed really healed?) and the way the glory always goes to God.

There are many other evangelists today who have a healing ministry.

HOW GOD HEALS TODAY

By His Spirit

Rom 8.11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

His sacrifice on the cross

Is 53.5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

Through Salvation

The word translated Salvation also means Healing

Rom 10.13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The word translated ‘saved’ in this word is the Greek word sozo.  Strong's defines this word as follows;

to save, that is, deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):—heal,  preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole.

Believers laying hands on the Sick

Did you know that you are in the Bible?  If you are a believer, then Mark 16 refers to you.

Jesus gave us the commission to preach the gospel, cast out demons and heal the sick. In Mark 16 he said when BELIEVERS lay hands on the sick they shall recover.  These are not just the disciples, but also those who believe the word that they taught.

Mark 16. 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;  They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

By agreement…

When two or more Christians agree - The secret here is to be in agreement on what we are asking God for.

Matt 18. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Gifts of Healing

1 Cor 12. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

The original Greek says gifts of healings (i.e. plural).

Gift of Working of Miracles

1 Cor 12. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

Call for the Elders and Annoint with oil

James 5. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

By Faith

I call healing as ‘practical faith’.  In other words you are putting your faith into practice in order to get someone healed.  It is not just about saying ‘Yes I believe the Bible” or ‘I believe God heals’ it is stepping out and acting as if it were true.

Mark 11. 22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.

You believe your have already received it at the time you pray for it.  That is faith.

MY OWN EXPERIENCES

In my own life and in the church I belong to there are many testimonies of how God has healed people and answered prayer.

Mother’s 2 year old son

A 2 year old boy became very ill and could not stand or walk.

The doctors had no answer and were very worried.  In fact the Specialists kept phoning the mother to check on his progress.

One day listening to worship CD’s and praying she felt led to lay hands on the boy.

Half an hour later the mother tells him you can stand up now Jesus has healed you. So the boy stands up and runs around the room!

The Doctor said ‘it’s like take up thy bed and walk.”

In 1987 Led to pray with Kathy’s mum.

Kathy was in hospital suffering from a breakdown.  During the morning I felt a compulsion to go to her mothers’ house and pray with her. So I went along to her home and we prayed.   The next day Kathy was home again.

My out of body experience with Norman

Norman was locked up in a mental institution and despite my attempts and phone calls,  I was not allowed to visit him.  One night I dreamt that I was in his hospital room laying hands on him. The next morning he rang his father completely healed and was released the following day.  I don’t really understand what happened but to me it felt like it might be something like Paul experienced  in 2 Corinthians 12:3  And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)

Led by the Spirit

I was suffering a bad back when I went to a prayer meeting.  During the prayer time, the person standing next to me asked me if I had a bad back, I said yes and so she laid hands on my back, prayed and the pain went away.

Husband and Wife are one Flesh

The Bible teaches us that when we are married we become one flesh and the effect of this was made real to me on a day I was suffering much pain.  Whilst I was at work, my wife went to a ladies meeting where they laid hands on her and prayed for me.  At about the same time the pain in my body disappeared.

Right Place Wrong Day

My wife Dena was very sick in bed and very weak.  She heard on the radio that the preacher Margaret Court was holding a healing service just near our home.  So my wife dragged herself out of bed and round to the hall where the meeting was to be held only to find the meeting was the next day.  However just at that point in time, Margaret turns up to check the facilities and pray for the meeting, so she prayed for my wife who was immediately healed.

Through Praise and Worship

My wife had been deaf in one ear for many years. Then during praise and worship at our church, her ear just popped and her healing restored.  She now thanks God everytime she listens to her watch ticking through her previously bad ear..

Prayer for hope

Several years ago during a prayer meeting, Pastor Philip Baker of Riverview Church in Perth, was led to pray for people who had family members that were very sick.  So I went forward as my mother who was in England at the time was so sick we did not think she would survive let alone  return to Australia. He prayed for mum by laying hands on me but instead of praying for healing, he prayed for hope!  I have to admit I was very disappointed with his prayer but little did I know he was being led by the Holy Spirit when he prayed.  My mother recovered and when I later discussed it with my her, she told me she wanted to give up and die, but then she thought about her family and hope began to rise that she would see them again.

Through Usher Training!

When we were head ushers at our church and responsible for training,  we had a session on prayer lines.  I asked for volunteers to be the people being prayed for and others to be catchers.  As this was a training session I told the ‘sick’ people they must fall as that is what we were practicing.  Afterwards, one of them came up to me and told me that they nearly did not come that day as they had such painful arthritis.  However, they volunteered to be prayed for and when they got up again, the pain had completely disappeared..

Prayer and Presence

In 1999 Mum was very ill again and the hospital doctors called me to come straight away as they did not think she would last.  I prayed before I left the office  as I knew it would take 30-40 minutes to get to the hospital.  That night they drained 3 litres of blood from her lungs but the next day she was sitting up in bed as if nothing had happened.  Later she told me that she had seen a ‘person’ standing by her bed telling her she would be alright.  The person was very bright.  We have no way of knowing if it was a doctor, nurse, angel, or Jesus himself, but he was right.

THERE ARE STILL MANY WAYS GOD HEALS

Gifts of Healings

This often happens when a preacher has a special annointing to pray for healing.  Sometimes this is restricted to certain types of disease or injury, other times it is more general.  An example of this today would be the TV evangelist Benny Hinn.

In Small Meetings

The gifts of healings can also apply in small home groups meetings. For example when the person next to me prayed for my back.

Prayer of Agreement

Matt 18.19-20  “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” It is vital that you discuss this well beforehand so that you are in total agreement and that you pray exactly as you have agreed.

Taking Authority In The Name Of Jesus

Phil 2.9-11   “Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

In John 14 Jesus tells us to use His name when we pray to the Father and he will do whatever we ask.

Calling For The Elders Of The Church

We often try to force our will on others praying for them when they don’t really want to be healed.  The Bible says for those who are so sick they cannot go to others, they are to call for the elders of the church believing that the annointing with oil and the prayer of faith will heal them.

James 5. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord

By laying on of hands

Prayer:  Father your word commands us as believers to lay hands on the sick and they shall recover.  We therefore obey your command in the name of Jesus and lay hands on this person and thank you that as we do so your power is at work to heal them.

Often we are unable to lay hands on people because they are not in the place where we are, but when they are, it is important not just to pray but to lay hands on them.  The laying on of hands does not have to be a major ceremony, just a gentle touch on their arm or shoulder or back whilst you pray a short prayer of faith for their healing.

There are so many ways God heals,  I urge you to study the Bible, find out for yourself the will of God for Healing,  find out how to receive your healing, how to pray for yourself and how to pray for others.

At the end of this book there are some prayers that may help you.

Don’t wait for the Altar call….

Many times in church services, we experience a moment when we have the faith to receive our healing, but we wait until the end of the service hoping there will be an altar call. Even if there is an altar call, it is often too late as we have lost that moment of faith.

Bartimaeus is a good example of how to receive healing from God.

Ignoring what those around him said, he knew the moment to receive his healing was there and he was determined to take it.

Luke 18. 35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.

How did he get his healing?

  • He heard that Jesus was there
  • He had faith that Jesus could heal him
  • He called out to Jesus
  • He refused to be discouraged by those around him
  • He left his comfort zone to go to Jesus.
  • He told Jesus exactly what he wanted.
  • He trusted Jesus would heal him.
  • He glorified God.

So too, the woman with the issue of blood.  By rights she should not have been there – she was ‘unclean’  according to the standards of the day and she should not mix with other people.  But she was determined to get healed, she knew Jesus had the power to heal and if only she could just touch his clothes she would be healed……so she bulldozed her way through the crowd, dived at Jesus and took her healing.

Luke 8:43  And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,  Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.

And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

When Angels caused a stir

John 5. 1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

He came to give us LIFE

John 10. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy - its good medicine

Prov 17. 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

The joy of the Lord is your Strength

Nehemia 8.10…. for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

By prayer and fasting

Mark 9. 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Fasting is something I have never really understood and usually I don’t feel as if I am doing it properly, but I know from personal experience and the experiences of others that it is mighty effective.

It is not just a case of going without food for a while, it is more a matter of replacing the time you would have used preparing and eating food, to praying and meditating on God’s word.  Spending the time with God.

On one occasion, when I was having a bad time and unable to cope with my work, I fasted and prayed for a few days then I found myself asking God “If I am ill please show me”.  I didn’t know that I was ill, I thought I just couldn’t cope but as soon as I said those words I knew that I was ill.  Knowing that helped me to find a way to deal with it.

Ask, Seek, Knock  (Luke 11.9-13)

I was brought up to believe it was rude to ask.  As a result there were a lot of things I did not get!.  God tells us we are to ask and we will receive whether it is healing or any other need.

Luke 11. 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Ps 34. but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Keep on Asking

If you don’t receive healing straight away, keep on asking and seeking God for it - don't give up

Luke 18:1  And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:  And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.  And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;  Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.  And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.  And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?

We  are Redeemed from the Curse of the Law

The curse of the law includes sickness and diseases;

Deut 28.15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. ……..

The LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed. The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart: And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee.

But Galatians says we are redeemed from that curse;

Gal 3.13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

He sees our ways and heals us

Isaiah 57.18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.

The Lord delivers us from our afflictions

Ps 34.19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

The Lord keeps our bones

Ps 34. 20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

He redeems our soul

Ps 49. 15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me.

Like God, we are a three part being, spirit, soul and body.  When we are saved, our spirit is immediately saved – in fact it becomes new.  Our body isn’t saved, in fact we know it will age, die and rot away. Our soul which represents our mind and will has to be renewed by us studying and meditating on God’s word.  This way, our faith grows and our soul is redeemed.

He strengthens us

Ps 119.28 My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.

God revives us

Ps 119.88 Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth.   (Quicken means to give life to)

He upholds us

Ps 119. 116              Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live:

Keep His commands and add years to your life

Prov 3. 1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.

Receive Gods Word and add to our life

Prov 4. 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

Fear God and prolong our life

Prov 10. 27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

Prov 14. 27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Our Health will spring forth

Is 58.8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward.

The name of Jesus is above the name of sickness and diseases

Phil 2. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Wait on the Lord and our strength will be renewed

Is 40. 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

God’s Spirit dwells in you to quicken our body

Rom 8. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. The word quicken means to give life to.

Annointed with Holy Ghost

Acts 10.38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him

Preserving Your Spirit, Soul and Body.

1 Thes 5.23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God Forgives us our Sins and Heals us

Ps 103. Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

  • Who forgives all your iniquities,
  • Who heals all your diseases,
  • Who redeems your life from destruction,
  • Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
  • Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
  • So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
  • Healing is part of the Salvation Package deal. He Who forgives all your iniquities, heals all your diseases, redeems your life from destruction

Forgiveness of sins and healing come hand in hand.

If you believe God has forgiven you, then believe also that He has healed you. (ps 103).

1 John 1.8-9 tells us “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Every time you stand and confess your sins,  thank God for your healing too.

God supplies our need

If you are sick, your need is for healing…

Phil 4. 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

God makes Grace abound towards us

Grace is Gods unmerited favour.  It is by grace that you are saved through faith, and it is by grace you are healed.

2 Cor 9. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

By the Blood of the Lamb

In the same way the blood of the lamb saved the Hebrew slaves from death, so the blood of Jesus saves us from death.

Ex 12. 3 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Through faith, women received the dead raised to life

Heb 11. 33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

God Restores our soul

Ps 23. 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Jesus destroys the works of the devil

1John 3.8 For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

The Holy Spirit helps us;

Rom 8. 26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Speak to the Mountain

Sickness can be the mountain so speak directly to the sickness. You can move it, or better still, you can move it and cast it into the sea.

Mark 11. 22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.

Wait on the Lord

Ps 27. 14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

He sustains us

Ps 3. 5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

He gives power to the faint…

Is 40. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Jesus is always the same

If He healed yesterday, He will heal you today and He will continue to heal in the future.

We know Jesus healed people when He was on earth.  But the Bible says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb 11.8). So if you believe that  He healed yesterday, then He heals today and He will heal tomorrow.  God doesn’t change.  Did you know that God healed through the disciples too, and that ever since then God has healed through Believers?

Heb 13. 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Acts 10. 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

THEN THERE’S TODAY’S MEDICINE.

Medical Doctors and Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Surgeons, Medicines, Hospitals, Vitamins, Exercise,  Good Nutrition, etc.

Jesus didn’t reject Doctors, in fact He admitted the sick need doctors.

Matt 9. 12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick

I believe that God is behind much of today’s advances in medicine.  He wants people well.  He created us with the ability to learn about diseases and find ways to prevent diseases and heal people.

If you can believe that God will work through your doctor to heal you, or through medicines or an operation, then grab hold of that faith you have in God.

The important thing is that you trust God to heal you and not put your trust in man or medicine.

Good Samaritan takes bashed man to hospital

Jesus also tells a story of how a Stranger looked after a man who had been attacked – he looked after him basically by doing the same sort of thing we would do today, apply first aid and take him to hospital (or in this case an inn);

Luke  10. 25 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

And he said, He that showed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise

And remember;

2 Cor 1. 20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

All the promises in the Bible are for us when we become a follower of Jesus Christ.

Where-ever there is a promise of healing in the Bible we have the right to claim it for ourselves. So search the scriptures for promises that you can claim.  I have quoted many in this little book but there are also many more.  Pray as you search the scriptures and ask God to give you a revelation of a scripture that will meet your needs.  Then hold on to that scripture.  Meditate on it day and night, see how it applies to you, pray it over yourself and give thanks to God.

Continue to thank God for your healing everyday, whether or not you see any difference, thank Him for it and that change will manifest physically.

I am absolutely convinced that nothing has happened to suggest that the age of miracles has past.  In fact, Jesus himself told us that the works He did we would do also - and GREATER works would we do because He goes to be with the Father

John 14.12  "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

This is not just a promise to the twelve disciples but it is a promise to anyone who believes in Jesus. In fact, the implication of verse 11 "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves."  is that the works are all part of the ministry required to get people to believe in Jesus.

God is glorified in your healing and strength, He is not glorified in sickness.

5.            WELL – WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Well - What are you going to do about Grace?

Are you a Christian?  Are you Born Again?  Have you accepted God’s gift of salvation?

Please, please, please, please a thousand times please don’t wait.

God has given everything for you,  He has sought you out, He has drawn you to His son.  Accept Him now.  Remember the prayer in section one and pray it now……

Almighty God, I come to you in the name of your beloved son Jesus.  I believe he is your son, that he died for me so that I might be saved.  I believe he rose again on the third day victorious over sin and death.  I accept his sacrifice for my sin,  I renounce all other Gods and I ask you Jesus to come into my heart, I declare that from this moment on, you are my Lord.  God you are my father and I am your child.  Teach me your ways,  change me, correct me, protect me.  Fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to be a minister of your gospel, to share the good news with my family, my friends, and everyone I meet.

I love you Jesus.

Amen

If you are already a Christian but have wandered away from God,  come back now. Like the prodigal son’s father, God is waiting for you to return.  Confess your sins and lay your life open to God.

1 John 1.8-9 says  If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

His tender mercies are new every morning.  This morning He has new mercies for you.

Lamentations 3. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Remember God is faithful;

1 Cor 1. 8 Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Deut 7. 9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

WHAT DOES GOD EXPECT OF US NOW?

Now we are saved, we are to carry on the ministry that Jesus started nearly 2000 years ago.

The Works Jesus Did;

In John 14.12 Jesus tells us that the works He did we will do also - and greater works.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you  ask anything in My name, I will do it.

What were the works of Jesus?

When John the Baptist sent his disciples to Jesus to ask Him if He was the Christ, His response was ;

Matt 11.2    And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he  sent two of his disciples and said to Him, “Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me.”

And Peter said about Jesus in Acts 10.38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

PREACH

Before Jesus left earth to go to be with the Father, he COMMANDED us to continue His ministry.  In fact it said he rebuked the disciples who did not believe the reports of his resurrection, then he commanded them to preach the gospel.

Mark 16.14 Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. 15And He said to them,

  • “Go into all the world (don’t wait for the world to come to you).
  • and preach the gospel to every creature.
  • He who believes and is baptized will be saved;
  • but he who does not believe will be condemned.
  • And these signs will follow those who believe:
  • In My name they will cast out demons;
  • they will speak with new tongues;
  • they will take up serpents;
  • and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them;
  • they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

God says if His people (that’s us) who are called by His name (Christians) will humble themselves, pray, seek God and repent - He will hear us, forgive us our sins, and heal our land.  So lets do just that.  Isn’t that the cry of the world today?  What is wrong with our land? our nation? our people?  They need God to heal them.  It’s up to us.

PRAY

2 Chron 7. 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

It’s up to us to

  • humble ourselves
  • pray
  • seek God’s face
  • repent

and in doing so we will change this world we live in.

PRAY AND STUDY

Develop a regular prayer life where you communicate with God every day.

Just tell Him your cares and worries, what you want to do and what you are doing.

Commit your plans to Him

Pray for your family, church, friends, and the government.

Find a place where you can be quiet, where it’s just you and God, no distractions, no TV, no interruptions.

God wants to develop a two way communication with you, so He can hear your cares and problems, and tell you what to do about them.

PARTICIPATE IN HIS FAMILY

Find a good church where you feel comfortable, where they really believe in God, believe His Bible, and have a passion to serve and honour God.

  • Participate in that church
  • Participate in the Sunday services.
  • Participate in the singing.
  • Participate in the shouting and clapping.
  • Participate in the offerings.
  • Participate in the Bible Study.
  • Participate in serving.
  • Participate in the social activities
  • Participate in the smaller groups.
  • Participate when people are watching and when they are not watching.
  • Be a fully active member of God’s family. Don’t just participate but participate with enthusiasm, love and generosity.

7.              WELL, HERE’S SOME PRAYERS AND PSALMS TO HELP YOU

Here are some examples of prayer that may help you.  For more prayer examples, see my book called ‘Effective Prayer’ (Xulon Press, 2005),

In order to receive from God we need not just to pray for healing but we should begin by praising and honoring Him.  I encourage you to listen and sing along to a praise CD before you start to pray.

Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:5–15.  how to pray and gave an example which today is known as the ‘Lord’s Prayer’.

When we pray, we should be discreet about it and not show off to everyone.  Prayer is not to make us look good, it is to honor and communicate with God.

Matt 6  “When you pray, go into a room alone and close the door. Pray to your Father in private. He knows what is done in private, and he will reward you.

When you pray, don't talk on and on as people do who don't know God. They think God likes to hear long prayers.

Don't be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask.  You should pray like this:

  • Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name.
  • Come and set up your kingdom, so that everyone on earth will obey you, as you are obeyed in heaven.
  • Give us our food for today.
  • Forgive us for doing wrong, as we forgive others.
  • Keep us from being tempted and protect us from evil.

If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you.   But if you don't forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Unforgiveness can hinder our prayers. So before we begin it is important to ensure we have not got unforgiveness in our hearts.”

A Prayer for Forgiveness

Father God, as your child, I come into your throne room to find grace and mercy in this my time of need.  I come to you in the name of your son Jesus who suffered and died for me on the cross.  He took upon himself all my sins and made himself to be the sacrificial lamb for my sins.  I confess that I have sinned against you by choosing not to obey your commands and placing myself above your Word.  I have sinned by omission and commission.  I specifically confess the sin(s) of ________________ _________________ and I ask you to forgive me of these and all my sins.  I truly repent and turn away from these sins and proclaim that, from this moment on, I refuse to continue to do these things but rather I will obey your commands and plans for my life.  Holy Spirit of God  please help me to overcome temptation, to flee youthful lusts and to think on those things that are pure and innocent, lovely and just and true and of a good report. Help me to fulfill all God’s plans for my life.  I claim the blood of my Lord Jesus over my sins and thank you Father that as I have confessed my sins you are faithful and just to forgive me and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness.  You are the Lord who forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.

Where my sin has damaged or hindered anyone else I ask that you help me to help them to overcome, that you will prosper them and bless them in the name of Jesus.    Amen

Psalm 103 (A psalm by David.)  Taken from the Contemporary English Version

With all my heart I praise the LORD, and with all that I am I praise his holy name!

With all my heart I praise the LORD! I will never forget how kind he has been.

The LORD forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, and protects us from death. His kindness and love are a crown on our heads.

Each day that we live, he provides for our needs and gives us the strength of a young eagle. For all who are mistreated, the LORD brings justice.

He taught his Law to Moses and showed all Israel what he could do. The LORD is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never fails.

The LORD won't always be angry and point out our sins; he doesn't punish us as our sins deserve.

How great is God's love for all who worship him? Greater than the distance between heaven and earth!

How far has the LORD taken our sins from us? Farther than the distance from east to west!

Just as parents are kind to their children, the LORD is kind to all who worship him, because he knows we are made of dust.

We humans are like grass or wild flowers that quickly bloom.

But a scorching wind blows, and they quickly wither to be forever forgotten.

The LORD is always kind to those who worship him, and he keeps his promises to their descendants who faithfully obey him.

God has set up his kingdom in heaven, and he rules the whole creation.

All of you mighty angels, who obey God's commands, come and praise your LORD!

All of you thousands who serve and obey God, come and praise your LORD!

All of God's creation and all that he rules, come and praise your LORD! With all my heart I praise the LORD!

Psalm 151 A Psalm Of Praise

- a psalm by Phil Spurling (you wont find this one in the Bible – or will you?)

God is Real, He Lives and wants us to live with Him.

He is so patient and forgiving, He loves us so much that He gave His only son  to suffer and die for us that we may receive total forgiveness and be made righteous as He is righteous.

I don’t understand why He didn’t just give up on us and destroy us for we have let Him down so many times.  Even now we still sin and are disobedient, yet He forgives us.

He loves us and does everything He can to keep us.  He is so good to us, why are we not good to Him?

He has always made sure we have food to eat, a home to live in and friends to support us.

He has healed us and answered our prayers so many  times

He gives us His spirit to counsel, guide, comfort, help and strengthen us. He forgives me and cleanses me of all unrighteousness.

He hears my prayers and answers them.  He knows what is best for me and He satisfies my soul with good things.

He gives His angels charge over me and protects me from harm.

He blesses my family and leads them on the path of righteousness.

He walks with me, talks to me, listens to me, and carries me through the tough times.

I love the Lord my God and put my trust in Him.

We are His children and He thinks the world of us.  He looks after us as a good father should. We live in His house and serve in His business.  He gives us good things.

Oh God forgive me.  I am determined to change my ways and not to let you down. Help me to know and do what you want me to do. To be the person you want me to be.

Jesus you are my Lord and Saviour,  I love you and honour you, I thank you for the sacrifice you have made and the gifts you have given me.

Holy Spirit, fill me and pour out the love of God into my heart so that it overflows with love.

You o Lord have great plans for me, plans to prosper me not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future.  Let them be.  If my plans differ from yours, let thy will be done.

Salvation for Others

Almighty God I pray in the name of Jesus for _________________.  Jesus told us that no-one can come to Him unless his Father draws them, so I ask that you draw ________________ to your Son Jesus.  Soften their hearts to your word, renew their mind, and send the right labourers across their path who are anointed to minister to him/her.   In the name of Jesus I command Satan and all his evil forces to release them and to stop their deceiving activities concerning them.  Let them be free to worship the true living God.  Let them hear the gospel.  Let them believe the gospel.  Let them make Jesus Lord and may they live in your house forevermore.

  For Financial Blessings/Needs

Father your word says that you are able to make all grace abound towards us so that we will always have all sufficiency in all things, that we may have abundance for every good work. I therefore ask you as the Lord my Provider to let all grace abound towards me so that I may have abundance to give to every good work.  I sow this seed that you have provided and ask that you show me where to sow, when to sow, how to sow, help me to prepare the soil, to nurture the seed, and to reap the harvest.  Give me wisdom in financial and business matters so that I may be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, to lend and not to have to borrow. To be a blessing, a vessel you can use to bless others.

Philippians 4.9 says ‘But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.’ And so I believe you will supply all me need.

Psalm 41(CEV) says ‘You, LORD God, bless everyone who cares for the poor, and you rescue those people in times of trouble. You protect them and keep them alive. You make them happy here in this land, and you don't hand them over to their enemies. You always heal them and restore their strength when they are sick.’  So I believe you will bless me, rescue me, protect me,keep me alive, happy, free from my enemies, healed and restored.

In the name of my Lord Jesus,   Amen

For Healing

Father in the name of Jesus I come before you to pray for the healing of _____________.  There are so many examples in your word where you found ways to heal people.  Some you spoke to, some you touched, some touched you, some you cast out demons from, some you made spit balls and put it on their eyes and many more ways did you find to heal.  You told us to only believe, so we believe.  You instructed us to pray for the sick, to preach the gospel and lay hands on them with a promise that they will recover.  So in the name of Jesus I lay hands on ____________ and I pray believing that you are healing them right now in the name of Jesus.  You told us that whatever we ask in the name of Jesus that you will do that the father may be glorified. So let God be glorified and may__________ be healed and all their sins forgiven.  Amen

 For Grace

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ I ask that you Lord to make all grace abound towards me so that in all things I will always have all sufficiency and abundance for every good work. I ask for grace for forgiveness, safety, health, in my relationships with others, to turn the other cheek when I am abused for His names sake.  I also ask that you enable me and teach me to use this grace that I may become a blessing to those in need including those who have offended me.  I pray that this grace will enable me to be a blessing to your people and to your work. That I may become a channel for your grace to reach other people.      Amen

Prayer of Agreement

Father God, there is a matter of concern to us the details are as follows;___________________________________   Father your word tells us that wherever two or three of us are gathered in your name that Jesus is there with us.  You also say that whatever two or three of us agree on anything, that will it be done.  So in the name of Jesus, we bring this matter to you.  We ask the Holy Spirit to guide our prayers on this matter that we may pray according to your will.  We therefore pray that in this matter;____________________________________ We stand together on this matter and declare that we are in total agreement and believe that we have your favour and have prayed according to your will on this matter.  Therefore we believe that this result is now achieved and give you thanks in the name of Jesus. Amen.
